Hey skate Gang! Summer is definitely on its way, the sun is out and outdoor skating is in full swing.
What’s New with RGG?
Mel represented Roller Girl Gang in Peckham at @R0lljiggy’s Skate of Mind Live. Follow @skateofmindpod and check out our Skaters’ Stories Project on YouTube, discussing how roller skating can support wellbeing but also the pressure which can come in learning new skills.
Finding the approach which allows each individual to thrive is essential, as roller skating is so often a key part of a skater’s self care routine.
Thanks so all the awesome skaters who popped in over the Northern Roll event and who have been coming in to say hello as they get their skates ready for the start of summer. It was amazing getting to meet you all, hear your skate stories and help you out with your skate needs 🙂
If you follow our @rgg.skateshop Instagram account you may have spotted that as June is Pride Month we have been preparing our shop in Leeds Corn Exchange, adapting each display ready for Pride. From skates to helmets, wheels to skate straps, you’ll spot rainbows throughout the shop in support of the LGBTQIA+ community. It is essential to us that our shop, classes and events are safe spaces for everyone <3 🌈🌈🌈
Product Shout Outs!
This month we have to do a shout out to the delectable Ocean Slider Wifa Custom shop build, with the components selected and built by Sophie. Sophie wanted to create a park set up perfect for the summer months, with a lush Wifa Street Suede boot in Ocean mounted onto a STD Grind plate (Blocks already fitted!), Estrojen Bowl Bomber wheels and a Psychedelic Butterfly charm from Fabrikk to finish off this set up.
Are you ready to hit the skate park? 🙂
The Rookie Rosa skates are a great introductory skate for those on a budget, in stock in sizes UK4 to UK8. With a supportive, padded vinyl upper, they are a comfy fit, coming in black with embroidered roses on the side. They have a simple plate and small soft wheels, fab for getting you rolling this summer. Until the end of June 2023 only they will be reduced in price to £49.99. Don’t miss out on this flash offer!
This week we have had a new arrival in the shop, these super cute Pacer Skate Bags are the perfect mix of functionality and aesthetic. From funky donuts and ice creams to mythical unicorns and unicats, finished off with sprinkles, stars and pink piping and strap, this boot bag screams kawaii. But it is not just cute, its really big, fitting skates and your pad set- maybe even your water bottle and sun cream for wherever you choose to skate this summer.
Let us know what you think of these new products and what you’d love to see in store.
We have had lots of product restocks over the past week, follow our shop instagram @rgg.skateshop to keep up to date with the latest products to arrive. If there is something you need but can’t find or we are out of stock, get in touch at shop@rollergirlgang.co.uk and one of our team will try their best to help you out <3
Shop Events in June:
We’re were so excited to host our very first Tie Dye workshop at the beginning of June at Leeds Corn Exchange. It was great to take the time to focus on something creative and relax, whilst also sharing a new skill and having some fun skating chat! The tie dye creations were amazing, we explored spiral, bullseye, scrunch, sunburst and stripe techniques and the everyone brought out their inner artist!
Here we have Jane, rocking her new tie dye spiral masterpiece while taking part in her skate marathon! 🙂 Next time dye opportunity coming soon!
Heading into mid-June, you may have lots of questions about caring for your skates. From how to clean them after a particularly dirty trail skate to how to change your wheels or clean your bearings. If so, our skate maintenance workshop is for you. It is an opportunity to have a natter about all things skates, while giving your skates some tlc. Bring all your questions along and we will be happy to help you out will all things skate maintenance 🙂
Skate events in June
Our usual Beginner classes, skills workshops and Friday Night Socials will continue as usual throughout June, with family learn ‘n’ roll and roller dance finishing off the month. The 1st June is the launch of RGG Virtual skate Marathon, (just in case you’ve missed all the hype).
We are really looking forward to our annual Summer Solstice Roll Out coming up on 21st June. This free event is a meet up for a skate across the city on the lightest evening of the year. Some of the route is hilly, so we suggest you bring shoes to walk these parts if you are not yet hill confident. Do RSVP so we can send you info about the route.
