A couple times we did do practice runs uh also Kobe K former NHL former Chicago Blackhawks broadcaster now a contributor at Daily face off he’s gonna swing by and give us his opinion on how this Oilers team looks um no one on waivers today no no one on waivers today in the

Opinion I had after the Oilers got blown out in their opener and said we’ll have a seven2 in one record and we’ll laugh about this right no one’s laughing anymore the Oilers lost again The Vibes were supposed to be better after the Heritage Classic Victory and to be fair
They kind were we played well yeah it’s just man with this team it’s kicking the junk after kicking the junk after kicking the junk the Oilers fall 43 to the Dallas Stars they now sit at 26 and one on the season if you want some uh if
You want some positivity if they win their games in hand they’re only 12 points back of the Vegas golden knights um yeah it’s not going good right now obviously um the record is ugly but but but but they’re playing good hockey people and I think that’s
Kind of the going to be the overarching theme of today’s show I still believe even after watching what we watched last night or getting the result that we got last night that this team’s going to be fine at some point and I tweeted it and
A lot of people don’t like it and I get it because it’s not what you want to hear the Oilers are painfully unlucky painfully unlucky every mistake they make is ending up in the back of their net every single one it’s ridiculous we’ll go through him again
And I know some of you well they should stop making mistakes every team makes mistakes Dallas made mistakes let’s go break down the first goal from last night’s hockey game Scott Wedgewood turns it over behind the net that puck ends up in the back of the net if it’s
Stuart Skinner falling down like that but whatever I digress Ryan newon Hopkins tries to put it into the open net somehow doesn’t rebound somehow doesn’t go in Puck goes to the corner to the top of the Zone Cody CCE makes a boneheaded decision to pinch the one
Thing they teach you when you’re a defenseman playing minor hockey don’t do that well like if if you’re hesitating go back if you’re hesitating it’s the wrong decision same thing with Stuart Skinner against the Jets last week or two weeks ago whenever the hell that was if you hesitate get back because it’s
Not the right choice you need to be 100% sure on those decisions Cody CCE takes a little stutter step in and then it’s like ah and I’m stuck and boom gone two-on-one the other way Matt to Shan shoots it misses his spot he’s trying to
Go five hole he ends up 8 inches off to the side it somehow still gets through Stuart Skinner that puck can’t go in that pinch can’t happen but good Lord if they got a bounce on that nen Hopkins wraparound they’re up one nothing and we’re probably talking an Oilers Victory

Were simple hardworking goals I loved it that second one for me was very weird because it was like right off the face off it was kind of like everybody just stopped playing yeah and then AER Kane and Sam G were like okay we’ll take the puck we’ll put our heads down go right
To the hoop and who would have thought you got rewarded and you get one in the back of the net the Sam G chance you were in the building Tyler that must have been electric I was feeling it from here yeah uh like the section I was in
Was chanting we want G when when they were down by one like it was so good it was so good um yeah incredible Vibes having Sam G back in the mix unfortunately you come up one goal short I want to talk a little bit about actually you know I’m going to save that
Question for brownley because there was some some people last night even some mainstream media people being like why was Sam G stapled to the bench when you’re down 43 there I think I don’t I I wasn’t as upset about that because the guys they had on the ice one are were
Their best are their best players they weren’t their best players last night G was one of them but also they took a pretty extended shift they had Dallas hemmed in there was no chance to really change there wasn’t a whistle or anything but anyway Sam G without a

The Oilers being unlucky I know people don’t want to hear it Aaron the shot attempts last night shot attempts were 98- 42 man that’s insane that you can lose a game like that and they didn’t have a shot for the first like I think four or
Five minutes of the game or the shots were 2-1 like eight minutes in or something like that and then they just poured it on for like 50 consec itive minutes the shots were 4927 the scoring chances according to Natural stat trck were 49- 204 and yet the score is 43 for Dallas
Goalie the G the first home game against Vancouver the game against Winnipeg the game against Dallas if you play that well for the next 70 you’re winning a lot of hockey games man and it’s just really really frustrating because obviously the record isn’t what we want it to be and I like
This tweet from Jay it might sound like losers speak but that was a loss that felt like a win because the Oilers dominated Evan Bard hit two or three goal posts I think three I we had the shot prop going last night that was a roller coaster in itself I think Scott
Wedgwood had two or three saves where he didn’t even see it and it just hit him Leon dry Sidle had a couple of one-timers from his spot where he knuckled them or he flubbed them and it’s like okay that’s not happening very much all those goal posts aren’t
Happening very much I know Dallas had one too so so you got to give them credit for that if you’re talking about the other side of the coin but the scoring chances by period 14 to7 for the Oilers 14 to9 for the Oilers 21 to8 for the Oilers again there are some mistakes
They need to take out of their game I will continue to stand by the fact that they need a save more saves in big moments their High danger save percentage at five on five is 692 second last in the NHL second last in the NHL who’s worse the no one’s
Worse no one’s worse okay second last in the NHL is 754 Oilers dead last 692 second last to 754 there are only eight teams in the NHL whose team High danger save percentage at 5 on five is below 800 and the Oilers are below 700 I know you’ll sit there two on one
Don’t blame the goalie on a two-on-one that power play goal Darnell Nur should have had a stronger stick and it dribbles in stop stop pucks Scott Wedgwood stopped 47 shots or whatever last night Scott Wedgewood and the Oilers are sitting here and I get it the broberg mistake

He’s waivered exempt right yeah so broberg broer is the only dman waiver exempt so you put broberg down you need to call up a forward because if Brown’s Hur and can’t play Yan Mark’s hurton can’t play but you can’t put him on ltir you can’t make a recall so you can’t
Play 10 and seven tomorrow against Nashville in that scenario so brober goes down I expect a forward to come up and we’re gonna see the team Adam Ernie season again isn’t Peterson hurt Drake cula’s hurt yeah ra ra r or it’s Ernie please be Raph please be ra I do but the point

Converge in the same night where McDavid doesn’t get any anything done where he’s shooting at wide and he’s looking mortal I mean this is not on McDavid and dry side Al they’re the two two of the best players on the planet but man when you’re not getting it who else is
Stepping up to uh to make a difference when when it’s not going for them well I would expect it to be yeah Evander Kane had a good game let me say that I don’t want to skip right past him he he’s engaged everything about his game and I’ve said this
Uh on on the show with Gregor uh Evander Kane is now playing like a guy who in his mind it’s clicked that I’m all right in other words the injury he’s throwing people around he’s snapping the puck he’s being physical the first few games and it’s understandable you know
He’s kind of feeling his way in that was an awful injury he had and it was bad bad enough last spring in then he HT his ribs on top of that so he looks right now but where’s where’s everybody else and why are we seeing um the same
Mistakes over and over again why is this club always need it seems uh four or five goals to win you you you can’t win that way is it Stuart Skinner uh and Jack Campbell on their own blame those guys get out of here get out of town no but they’re part of the
Problem uh they aspects of the team seem to be taking turns at sinking the team at different times and when you’re when you’re two six and one lots of season left but you start doing the math if this kind of record sticks around through a dozen games or 14 games now
You’re playing 750 hockey just to finish with 90 points yeah like it’s it’s not a fun exercise to kind of do the whole oh boy if they lose two of the next three like you’re right 750 hockey just to get in the mix for the playoffs not great um

Like sure I guess right last night if Conor and Leon connect on a goal it’s going overtime what I did like about last night is that they stayed in the fight despite those two not being there and they got brought back into that game by Evander Kane and Sam gang two guys
Who just went out there and were determined to be the hardest working players on the ice looking at the lines today Jay Woodcraft has them skating together with Ryan nen Hopkins I actually really like the look of that duo because it felt like last night they gave the Oilers a bit of an
Identity you know what I disagree or I agree pardon me Tyler um I wrote this morning that for me it came down to three things it came down to bad plays MH bad decisions which can be close to the same thing and bad luck now some people are going to go oh
There’s brownley you’re giving them the out bad luck well I tell you what when Evan bushard puts three slappers off the pipe uh that could have made a difference on the power play I don’t look at that and go everything’s great that would have been been the difference
Because would a could have Shoulda a lot of teams can say that about a lot of different games there were things to like there but you know I’d like to you know what I’d like to get past the lower body injury thing this is a big picture thing what’s wrong
With Conor McDavid he’s the best player on the planet I want to know is he idling along at 70% to try and stay in the lineup because he’s uh he he’s a a tough kid who’s willing to to uh stick it out in there is is is leand Idle okay
Um man I tell you what they get no slack when they’re great it’s they’re supposed to be great that’s what they do that’s why they get the big d uh when they’re not great you go how come they’re how come they’re not great but I do look at
The rest of that lineup and when you get a bit of fall off in the in the uh Power play you get a little bit of fallof at five on five with your two best players that’s when you need a little extra from Kane uh from Hyman uh they were you know
They were hoping to get a little of that extra from Conor Brown and it looked like he might be able to deliver a little of it until he went limping off again um you know Evan bushard looks like a hero if two of those pucks go in last
Night uh but they did so so that’s why we end up looking at Cody CeCe why did you pinch there and we look at a kid like broberg who didn’t make a terrible play but he didn’t get the puck deep and at the same time Dylan hallway Holloway
Says I’m gonna go to the bench in the net it goes these guys M these guys are masters of making the big mistake and that’s part of the problem yeah I think I’m with you like that Cody CC pinch in the first period can’t happen I I love
That you brought up Holloway and that broberg sequence as well CU yeah like Philip brower’s got to get that puck deep but also like if you’re on the ice don’t go off and change until the puck is in deep right like you could just wait a second and make sure you’re going
To avoid disaster so the big mistakes are all winding up in the back of their net um they’re gonna have to cut a decent amount of that out against Nashville because also you’re probably gonna have to face yuss Saros tomorrow and he’s a damn good goalie granted they
Got to him once uh would you go to Jack camell tomorrow between the pipes yeah I didn’t uh you didn’t get the save that you needed uh from steuart skinnard that’s different from he wasn’t good he he wasn’t any good but you you you know until somebody grabs the crease
And says it’s mine um you gotta play it based on what you’ve seen lately and and I didn’t I didn’t hate Skinner I just I I just didn’t much like him one thing I want to jump back to Tyler because you tou touched on it before I came on and I
Didn’t do it I didn’t look at the a shift chart but the one thing one of the things that I noticed is why is Sam G standing at the bench uh in the final minute and not on the ice now did I not look at a shift chart and see a late
Long shift in there and that’s the reason because that’s the first thing I thought you got to have your best players on the ice and one game does not make Sam G your your best player overall but when he’s jamming pucks into the net like he was last night I want him on
There with with the rest of my best guys so did I miss a late a late long shift somewhere there yeah like I’m just looking right now at uh the shift chart on natural statc and it looks like buard Hyman they were out there for like well
Over a minute because they had him hemmed in right so Woodcraft talked about that um a little bit after the game saying G was the next man up but they Dallas never even got the puck out of the Zone like the Oilers were on him
So I don’t know like as much as you know in the moment it’s like hey G I also don’t blame a coach for looking at Kane Heyman McDavid drle Bard and being like those are the guys who I trust right now to go get me a goal no you don’t
Agree no I completely agree but isn’t it a far more exciting hi headline for the faithful uh that G’s hatrick goal sends game to overtime or or uh you know I mean that was a he was a terrific story anyway and I’m being a bit factious but
I hadn’t looked at the charts and I didn’t see it off the top of my head so yeah I uh uh having zero wins as a national Hy league coach I’m not gonna sit here and tell Jay Woodcraft that he he messed it up but you do Wonder

Couple really good games early in the year he never got the bump to the top six but we know Jay Woodcraft likes his vets Sam G comes in last night works his bag off goes hard to the net gets a couple of big goals and you know what
With him and a Vander Kane on the ice last night there was a lot of good stuff happening in that game I’m just pulling up their numbers so they spent four minutes and 30 seconds together almost all in the third period shots were 63 goals were two nothing they looked like
Two pe’s in a pod last night somebody in the post game show said they should get an apartment together I after everything you saw from sang if you can capture lightning in a bottle like that you throw it on that top six you see what you can do I thought Warren fogle’s been
Good but we keep saying I don’t think he’s a Topline Winger maybe not even a top six Winger so that’s probably more where I’d like to see in the lineup once again the irony is Sam g a top six Winger well he was last night so I’m
Going with that ride the hot hand um another number that kind of stood out to me last night just as I was digging through the way the game sort of broke down is how like Ryan McLoud gets 11:34 a 5 on five ice time the Oilers out
Shoot the opposition 123 he’s not on the ice for a goal against the that’s pretty much been every game so far this year for Ryan McLoud has been he’s on the ice more good things are happening than bad things but he hasn’t pissed a drop in the goal column he cannot score right
Now and last night man there was a moment where he had the puck on the side of the net and I don’t like he somehow fumbled the scoring chance even like I thought he was going to have a wide open net and he ended up with a stick handle
And it was a weak muffin into wedgewood’s pads I said it a few times he also had a couple bad turnovers in the ozone a like he might as well be playing with his stick upside down right now he goes flies up the ice all flashy very flashy
Yeah very flashy does a lot of good things and he just cannot score right now and it’s very annoying because he gets to good spots there’s just this hesitancy in his game it drives me bananas for me it’s like what you just kind of said about Sam G how did he
Score those goals head down stick on the ice go right to the hoop slam one in I want to see more of that from Ryan McLoud a little less perimeter based you know what I mean mhm uh Mikey says the Oilers just want to make this season like a movie yeah I
Mean sure this is a very shitty part of the plot though um Maynard says it has to be the last game of 97 and 29 together if they don’t produce yeah there was someone else I think it was Davin who said W he should go back to the spine which I believe is
A reference to playing McDavid dry settle and NJ all on different lines can you flash up the combos for me one more time actually the ones yeah right before we’ll get to Colby in a second like if you were to go all three centers on different lines you’re turning Ryan
McLoud into a Winger at that point which I don’t think is a terrible idea at all um you could keep G and Kane with nude you could go McDavid Heim and Holloway McLoud dry cidal Fogle I guess I don’t know it just it’s thin right I I get the
