Tonight no end in sight for the Eglington cross town LRT so what does the mayor have to say about it I don’t know what to say anymore it’s it’s leaving me speechless mayor Chow says the city has done everything they could to get the cross town moving including
Securing the millions of dollars it costs to run it what does metr linkx have to say to all that worked for someone who became the premier of Ontario who was fourth on the first ballot fourth on the second ballot plus we are one day away from the election of
A new Ontario liberal leader will one of the Front Runners take the top spot or are we in for a surprise we’ve seen it before and now I have the illustrious job of going out and trying to Wrangle this thing in the middle of farm fields
In the middle of a snowstorm and we’ll have this wild story about a kangaroo on the loose in oshaa a far ways away from her native Australia we will hop on that story a little later in the the show good evening I am I’m Ali shasan we
Start tonight with the latest on the Eglington cross toown LRT mayor Olivia Chow says she’s also in the dark about a completion date she says she’s disappointed in the ongoing delays that have spanned three years since the original completion date came and went Greg Ross has the story I don’t know
What to say anymore it’s it’s leaving me speechless mayor Olivia Chow says the constant delay in opening the Eglington cross town LRT are puzzling and frustrating for those who live and work along the line the local residents the local businesses are are just waiting waiting waiting butcha has no
Explanation for those residents and business owners on Eglington because she says she’s not getting one from metr links herself they saying the same thing to me as to you so I don’t know the issue was raised again today with Metro Links president and CEO Phil verer he is
Still unable to provide a completion date we are going to announce an opening date for the enton cross town and we will do so 3 months in advance of opening day he would only offer a vague explanation as to why it’s taking so long what the issue is that we’re
Dealing with is the unpredictable findings we have during the testing phase and the unpredictable time impact that has on a potential opening day that’s why we’re not declaring an opening day now but we are continuing to work vigorously to get us to to to that opening date this Transit Advocate says
The lack of transparency from metr links is concerning and the fact that metr links is being absolutely silent on what the details are doesn’t give me an awful lot of faith is this the case that you know like the paint didn’t dry on the platform walls properly so we got to go
And repaint the stations which is easy to fix or is this a really serious technical problem in response to frustrated residents and business owners along the line vers first said this we have returned a lot nearly 90% of the roadways along Egon we’ve returned back for for service and pedestrians and
Businesses have access to their businesses back as as before Chow says after landing a deal this week that would have the province pay for the gardener and the DVP in exchange for Ontario Place the city now has the funding it needs to operate the LRT I
Was a bitri worry that we don’t have enough cash to operate the lines we now have to cash through the New Deal so let’s open it we’re ready firster said the majority of problems are at the Young Eglington station he promised a technical briefing in the coming days
With transparency on the problems and a full progress update Greg Ross CBC News Toronto finding housing in this city can be difficult for anyone but it seems to be an even bigger challenge for some single parents real estate agents say children are often the reason a tenants application gets rejected even though
Excluding People based on family status is discriminatory in this province Katherine brot has that story We visited a couple of uh places nice places but each time we had Bora Mara searched months for an apartment for herself in her two young children the single mom says she has a stable
Income in a great credit score they’ve been very up front they said no you have two children they’re going to be noisy or they can destroy damage the apartment most of the refusals came verbally the agent who helped her find a place later received emails specifically mentioning
Children as a reason to refuse his client if some agents do feel comfortable enough to actually write it not once but twice in an email that just shows you how rampant it is and how comfortable people are discriminating based on that raises a lot of red flags discrimination based on family status is
Against the Ontario Human Rights Code one lawyer we spoke with says this case of refusal may be illegal it seems that landlords are increasingly uh putting forward expectations that are sometimes inappropriate deute real estate is one of the agencies from whom an email specifically citing the children and
Number of occupants as reason to decline an application came from Tyler declute says the agents were likely relaying the decision they received from landlords the email also offered to contact the client if a different bigger apartment became available so all we can do is educate that’s really it and then we
Just follow instructions Karim Assad says it could force clients to disclose less information be cautious about about what you are sharing and and focus on the necessary details not a proposition this mother is willing to follow you have to remove your children from your
Life even if it’s a lie even if it’s on just on the paper I’m very not comfortable doing that balara eventually found a one-bedroom apartment for her family of three it’s temporary for now she says she’s still looking for the perfect place Katherine brot CBC News Toronto

Lives now in this next story animal Wranglers were out in Oshawa today to help find get this a kangaroo on the run the young marsupial escaped its handlers on route to a zoo in Quebec and it’s still hopping around somewhere in Durham region but as Anam Conan tells us they
Have the right people who hopped on the case if you were in Australia this wouldn’t be so unusual but this ain’t Sydney this is ashaa that’s the kangaroo hopping along the road this morning this witness saw the marup while taking his son to school mistaking it for a deer so
It’s off in the ditch there and it’s it’s running away but then I thought it’s not running it’s it’s hopping and I go Landon that’s a kangaroo ASA Zoo’s Park supervisor Cameron prid says while while the animal doesn’t belong to his Zoo it escaped from animal handlers
While on its way to another zoo in Quebec it jumped over their heads and escaped and now I have the illustrious job of going out and trying to Wrangle this thing in the middle of farm fields in the middle of a snowstorm the search brought together the ministry of Natural
Resources the police and team Chelsea for help a local pet and rescue group it used a heat seeking drone to track down the kangaroo to tranquilize it and bring it in from the cold unfortunately once cornered she got spooked and ran away they called off the search for tonight
Because as you can see conditions are getting really difficult it’s dark it’s cold it’s wet and they don’t want to scare the animal they’re worried that she’ll hop onto the road onto oncoming traffic and she is very very fast meanwhile the CEO of Toronto Zoo also worries about Predators um you know
You’d be concerned potentially say of uh if somebody has a dog off leash a large dog or a coyote um and again hopefully this kangaroo can find a safe sheltered uh location some neighbors couldn’t help but worry Don Harney and his grandson live nearby he was interested in the
Kangaroo uh he thought it’d be hungry and scared so he wanted to come over and just check out we heard they were looking at it with a drone little Owen’s never seen a kangaroo before now there’s one across the street from his home I hope kangaro is safe rescue teams will
Resume their search when the sun comes up tomorrow morning Adam con CBC News Toronto one Dee and light drizzle here in Toronto yesterday we had double digit temperatures it’s hard to know how to dress for this weather it’s so up and down isn’t it Colette yeah Ally so many places we could go with this I mean it’s the start of December it’s the start of
Meteorologic iCal winter uh it’s also leading us into the weekend and here we are dealing with the wintry mix and obviously that’s uh uh the big news but the reason I’m starting with temperatures is because that’s had an impact as of 7 a.m. this morning uh no problem with those readings being above
Freezing as the moisture came in though we saw those temperatures dropping and with that North to northeasterly flow in fact the Snow Line uh fell even further south and more and more mixing uh even into the City really has been the experience as the temperature comes up a
Couple of degrees overnight tonight with the next wave we’re still going to see some fog through the overnight hours experience that and some mixing into tomorrow morning a few centimeters to five or six over towards petero a few centimeters possible certainly to the north uh but that’s not going to be the
End of it for the weekend we’ve got another system that’s going to be rolling through as well so tonight 2° 4 tomorrow most of it in the morning then drier in the afternoon and then the next wave which I’ll talk about when I come back a man is dead after he fell two
Stories while working on a home in East York this morning Toronto police say the accident happened around 9:00 a.m. near Yardley and Glenburn Avenue near Victoria Park Crews arrived and the man was pronounced dead at the scene the Ontario Ministry of Labor has been notified and they will conduct an
Investigation in other news and inquest into a man’s death at an Ontario jail wrapped up today suan fakiri died after an altercation with prison guards back in 2016 faker’s family hasn’t stopped seeking answers in the seven years since his death and as Tyler cheese reports the inquest has finally provided some of
Those answers but first a warning this story contains footage that may be upsetting to some viewers for the past two weeks a jury has been presented with a slew of evidence about soan fak’s final days at the Cal East Correctional Center in Lindsay Ontario fakiri suffered from skitso effective disorder and was
Detained at the correctional center while awaiting trial for allegedly attacking a neighbor in the days that followed his arrest guards monitored fak’s Behavior noting he appeared mentally unwell the stench of fec’s UR and vomit by the appearance of it acting irrationally it’s not responding going
To tryy to get him out and get him cleaned up this week the jury heard that around 60 Ontario jail staff were alerted to fur’s mental state but he still wasn’t sent to a hospital some of those officials and the doctor overseeing his care spoke this week defending that decision then yesterday
New video evidence this time showing a calm and compliant fakiri with guards just hours before his death it’s a sharp contrast to video shown last week in which multiple guards wrestled furi into the cell where he would die criminal justice experts have been watching closely this week and say the inquest
Raises a number of important questions for other deaths in custody how many other details are being suppressed how many other cases are there like this where we’re told you know people just doing their job and actually you know there’s a horrific Injustice that has happened he’s hopeful that this case
Will lead to significant changes in the correctional system not just here in Ontario but across the entire country I don’t see how jail can be intelligible to people anymore as a response to distri or even a response to transgression we put people in jail in these very same
Jails all the time for very minor transgressions and the same things could happen to them any minute now I have spoken with the fui family today and they have been watching closely but they don’t wish to comment at this time until a final verdict is reached the inquest
Does continue into next week with jury deliberation beginning on Thursday Tyler chees CBC News Toronto now the city is planning to remove the last of the coin operated parking meters there are 150 of them left in operation and it costs the city a dollar a day to maintain the meters
And each one only makes about 18 cents in a day they will be replaced by the s Street consoles where you pay by card or the green pea parking app the decision to replace the coin meters goes to council December 13th and starting today illegal parking
On private property will cost you 2 and a half times more parking tickets will go from $30 to $75 this applies to parking illegally in private parking lots or reserved spots and skating rinks are open across the city if you’re looking for something to do this winter and if you don’t own
Skates no problem the city’s skate lending library kicked off today in Riverdale allowing people to borrow skates and helmets we really want to get people out over over the winter season enjoying one of our favorite pastimes learning to skate and uh having a good time and we
Want to remove barriers to that the program in partnership with de jarang group delivers equipment to different outdoor rinks all winter the full schedule is available on the city’s website well today we’re really excited to be opening the union winter presented by TD roller Express rink it’s a free
Indoor roller rink right here at Union Station where we have free skate rentals free skate lessons and a really fun time I am you can swap the ice skates for roller skates a new indoor roller rink open today at Union Station they’ll host DJ nights and other performances
And have 19 plus events the rink will be open until February 4th welcome back by this time tomorrow we could know who the next leader of the Ontario Liberal Party is voting has already taken place the ballots will arrive in Toronto tonight and the counting starts tomorrow Queens Park
Reporter reporter lorenda ROP tells us how it will all unfold more than a thousand Liberal Party members are expected to gather here tomorrow waiting for the results the ballots will arrive in U-Haul trucks from across the province kept in a room and guarded all night by security we
Need to go on a path Bonnie cromby is seen as the FrontRunner the on leave mayor of Miss Saga has the most name recognition against nater Smith Ted Shu and Yasser Nai but Front Runners don’t always win I worked for someone who became the premier of Ontario who was
Fourth on the first ballot fourth on the second ballot and first on the fifth ballot so you never know what can happen he’s talking about Dalton McGinty here he is a day after becoming leader I’m feeling great ready to take on the Tories ready to win the
Province but he did not win his first general election and this time the party is coming from further behind something the NDP want ontarians to remember they’ve been knocked out of party status now twice uh they don’t even have enough members uh currently to to be an
Official party so they’ve got a long road ahead uh we on the other hand are in a really great position to be able to continue to take this government task every day another factor in who wins how many people marked the ballot one liberal strategist says he’s heard those
Numbers were low turnout game right it is a question as to who was able to get their supporters with their ground game out to those inperson polling places which as I’ve talked about was a real challenge um so it may present some some unlikely scenarios this uh this
Weekend and it’s not just the number of votes but where they are each riding is weighted the same worth a 100 points so it’s strategy 500 members in Toronto St Paul might mean the same as 50 members in subury when the new leader has announced will all depend on whether
This is decided on the first ballot the earliest possible time would be sometime in the afternoon and all those ballots they’re going to be counted by hand lorenda ROP CBC News Toronto Ontario’s green party has doubled its presence today at Queens Park after Ashlin Clancy was elected as
The new MPP for Kitchener Center last night I don’t think we were expecting that we didn’t know what to expect to be honest like we thought it would be a really really tight race between NDP and green but to see the results uh just with the overwhelming win was amazing I
Spent uh many days in Kitchener over the last eight months and um I think it’s because uh it was a huge opportunity for the Ontario greens to double our caucus and just show momentum also ashin Clancy is a fantastic uh MPP uh she’ll be a strong voice for kitner Center there are now
Two green party members of provincial Parliament as Clancy Jo joins Le uh leader uh Mike shriner in the legislature the win means she’ll have to step down from her role as a city councelor in Kitchener so we’ve had some snow today in Toronto some drizzle at times and even a mix of both for more on what you can expect on your weekend weather forecast let’s go to Colette Kennedy hey Colette yeah Ally the pattern if we look at the continent not just our neck of
The woods around the Great Lakes is the kind of system after system are going to be rolling into the west coast and then eventually making their way to our skies we get maybe a day or day and a half in between and then the next one rolls
Through this kind of dipped down uh this went through Texas and then pushed into our skies and of course we had some rain but then quite a bit of mixing or light wet snow and the second wave with this system is going through tonight as temperatures come up into the GTA we get
More of it turning to rain and a few centimeters still possible to the north I’ll show you the accumulation kind of target areas in a moment and then that kind of exits so Saturday afternoon still some drizzle Left Behind Some fog in the morning hours and certainly a lot
Of cloud cover will be left that takes us Saturday night into Sunday so spotty drizzle freezing drizzle in a few areas especially eastern Ontario Sunday morning the cloud deck is still there but the next wave and next system will be rolling in this one definitely starting off with more areas in rain
Some freezing rain and mixing into eastern Ontario and it’s not until we get into the cold air on the back side that that’s going to turn over to some wet stone that’s more Sunday night into Monday morning so so much to contend with this is just taking you through
With the system we’re dealing with now and the waves of it in terms of how much more rainfall 5 to 10 millimeters there’ll be an additional of that as we get into that next system Sunday the target areas where we’ll see more snowfall uh when you get into those
Blues it’s about 5 to 6 8 cm or so and a lot of that melts on contact those overnight temperatures coming up a little bit that helps change it over to rain and not all this mixing 5 de Saturday afternoon does get drier and then Sunday we get into that next one
Coming on through the beginning of Sunday alley also should be drier until it makes its way in thanks Colette welcome back now that it’s December maybe you’re looking to get into the holiday spirit for that check out the Scarboro Town Center holidays Night of Lights we have over 1.5 million
LED lights that are synchronized to all your favorite holiday Tunes um it’s such a great walkthrough experience uh you’re really jamming as you’re going through with your entire family and friends the event is in its fourth year running organizers say this year is bigger and brighter than ever with new displays and
