For taking the time to join us for the Bristol Christmas parade you’re taking a live look of State Street and both Bristol Tennessee and Bristol Virginia lots of people winding the streets getting ready for the parade again thank you for joining us I’m Kristen Quan with the news5
WCYB and joining me is our guest host Tonight the city manager of Bristol Virginia Randy e thanks for being out here tonight well thanks for having me tonight this is a great time to be together with you and the rest of the WCYB team absolutely and we’re so happy
To have you this is the first time we’ve done this together so how excited are you for the parade oh I’m excited for the parade it’s great to have everybody out tonight and join downtown Bristol and just seeing the streets line with all the citizens from the surrounding
Communities definitely I mean let’s talk about this crowd we are seeing a huge crowd tonight huge crowd tonight probably one of the biggest crowds I’ve seen in the past seven years so it’s a perfect night with weather and uh the temperature and the parade is coming
Along down State Street almost to us but not quite we are outside of Quaker Stak and um that’s where we’re set up tonight but again I am just amazed by this crowd tonight lots of people out here tonight and we’re thankful because it’s not raining it is not not raining tonight so
Dave dereck’s did a great job to make sure we were had great weather for tonight and we were talking you know earlier today what’s your favorite part about the Bristol Christmas parade you know it’s seeing everybody together out having a good time with her families and enjoying all the floats and seeing the
People that work in our community and uh provide services for our community and everybody just coming out and supporting everybody oh yeah absolutely and we have a big crew out here tonight we’re really excited to be able to do this on Facebook and YouTube tonight um we also
Have have our Sky five drone that is taking a uh a look from the skies tonight of State Street which is really great and beautiful check out that shot there so nice Okay and they are coming along State Street right now we can see the police lights that’s one of the the cool
Things that I think too about this parade is that you know we’re here on the state line Bristol Tennessee and Bristol Virginia we always start with the two police departments side by side yes uh it’s great to see uh both uh cities work together and our First Responders are always working together
So it’s great to have them leading off the parade excuse me sir I’d Like all right here they come they’re coming down the line there and now you have been preparing this for this parade for a little bit um you told me you bought lots of candy today too yeah we bought lots of candy to hand out tonight uh over uh probably
I’m going to say 120 lb worth of candy we have handed out tonight for the community oh man and you can tell that the kids are ready for it because we’ve uh spoken to some kids earlier and that’s they said their favorite part of the the parade of course of course it is
Who doesn’t love candy yeah exactly I do too so all right here they come we can see them coming down again that’s the Bristol Tennessee Police Department and the Bristol Virginia Police Department always the start of the parade it’s great to have them start of the parade
And uh you know our community should really be thankful for our First Responders they do a terrific job every single day and they keep our community safe uh our police departments do that on a daily basis and also our EMS staff’s on both side of the state line
Two of the best in the nation I believe couldn’t agree more very thankful for them indeed and um I see a guy uh right there in the shop there he’s selling some cotton candy oh man I’d love to have some cotton candy tonight I know we
Uh we’re hungry up here that sounds good cotton candy and just regular candy that’s what’s the uh the treat tonight we’ve also seen a lot of people with hot chocolate hot chocolate if somebody wants to bring us some hot chocolate we’ll take it cuz it is definitely chilly out here
But again thankful that um it’s not raining tonight and we actually have really clear skies clear weather we’re able to fire up the Drone tonight which is always Great all right coming along Here I can hear the music now too starting up so we’re getting close this parade too just really gets me into the Christmas spirit you know I’m ready now it’s great because this is uh you’ve had Thanksgiving and now it’s time to really get into the Christmas spirit and
It really kicks things off we’ve got a couple of weeks to go to Christmas and uh this is a great way to start it all yeah definitely this this to me is like okay it feels like Christmas now and um I’m ready to to wrap some gifts and and
Get to Christmas I agree with you it’s a great way to start it all right here they come can hear the police Sirens I love too that their cars you know different colors you got the white one on the Virginia side and the the black on the other there’s Sergeant Milligan and her Children all right and here comes btes they provide some electric internet telephone and cable to Bristol Tennessee playing some Christmas music too I like it they got a blaring very Nice okay let’s see what’s next here all right it looks like our Grand Marshall is coming now which this year is Lisa C with the United Way of Bristol sponsored by Hard Rock 2 Casino obviously been a a good addition for the the city you would say it’s been a great
Addition for the city we love having hard rock here in Bristol uh it’s they’re great corporate uh sponsors to the city and they do everything they can to make their Community better uh they give to a lot of a agencies throughout the region and just do everything they
Can to make everybody uh feel welcome at Hard Rock and they try to welcome it uh them there right right and just right now just the temporary Casino the the the full thing is coming soon it’ll come in July and it’ll be about 880,000 ft of gaming space for people to enjoy and
Then shortly thereafter we’ll have the hotel as well so we’ll have hopefully a bunch of new people coming in from out of town to enjoy the Hard Rock be great to see all right here’s the Grand Marshall the trophy sponsor this year of this parade is also Hard Rock Chas Christmas they have hard rock Santa hats too pretty nice oh nice I like the truck this is a beautiful Float loving the Stars and there you go It’s Hard Rock’s official float they’ve done a great job with her float And even if you don’t you know gamble it’s has provided some pretty good economic growth for the city for sure it Has a big crew here from the Bristol Casino future home of Hard Rock Christmas Christmas handing out cups too all right and here’s Food City Miss Lisa is there Merry Christmas and their big grocery car we’re told this is the first time that they’ve actually entered the Bristol Christmas parade
Too all right and next Bristol Chevrolet you know you can really tell the detail some people have put into their flat they done a lot of work on the floats this year all right Westridge the Jr OC is here and the West rff wolf all right coming up next is a favorite
Of the Christmas parade the BART long Clydesdales oh they’re coming right up behind here and I can’t wait to see them it’s always fun to see the Clydes here on State Street I’m always just amazed at them too like amazing animals they have over a dozen Clydesdales here they
Are they bring the truck through the parade as well did not expect this tonight so far been absolutely amazing again you can see just so much detail that it’s put into the floats this year the kids are really excited too everyone’s jumping in love seeing the clads oh yeah All right let’s see what’s next all right so it looks like that we have a break we have a little a little bit of downtime so let’s talk about one of your favorite Christmas traditions because I’m ready I’m ready for Christmas it’s getting together with family on
Christmas Eve it’s one of my favorite Traditions we’ve done it for years in my family and just uh being with everybody at that time of year is a great time right I agree I said um earlier you know I love Christmas cuz I get to uh have
Some time to bake with my mom and just be with family so that’s great but we’re going to take another live look for you from our Sky five drone powered by Guardian you can see the people just lined up on both sides of the street that’s a beautiful shot of
Downtown you know and I that really is one of my favorite Parts about Bristol too is just State Street it’s be it’s absolutely beautiful during the day and at night I agree with you we couldn’t ask for a better downtown and the merchants all downtown they love being
Here and they love to see Bristol prosper definitely we have a lot of the small businesses here represented tonight which is always great to to support small and Shop small so when you out Christmas shopping this year I haven’t done my Christmas shopping yet I’m a little bit behind
Well see then then perfect time to get down to State Street and maybe you know check out some of the local business I need to do that my wife’s going to get mad at me if I don’t uh get her something for Christmas uh Mandy needs something nice for Christmas and Kegan
Needs something nice forras start our Sho we might need to start walking down the street and seeing what we can find after this speaking of Kegan what’s he doing tonight I think he is watching our live stream tonight from home from the com the warm warm home tonight but M’s
Out here I saw your wife out here she was out here she’s uh meeting with some work friends and they are enjoying 620 right now as we speak oh that’s great see support supporting another a great uh small business All right and it looks like the city of bristell Tennessee is next they are coming Next you know it’s great to you know that you’re here um representing the Virginia side but it’s also great that you know you guys really work together and make sure that Bristol is a great place to we do we work together quite a bit uh the new city manager over in the
Bristol Tennessee side we meet every other week uh to make sure we know what’s going on on the east side of the state line and we have a great relationship and looking forward to continuing that relationship over the next several years oh that’s Wonder that’s wonderful to hear that you guys
Are working together and um like you mentioned she she is new to the city she is new to the city she’s from Minnesota so it’s a little bit different climate down here for her than what she’s used to but she uh she’s enjoying it so far I’d say she’d be um enjoying this
Climate she is oh and look at the golf cart that they have decked out and all the lights very Nice there’s Terry he does a great job it’s always looking beautiful in bristell Tennessee you know so we’re thankful for Them thanks Terry oh look I’m getting some candy now oh thank Youk you there’s here’s our dinner readyy yeah we should have eaten earlier yeah all right and we have some more representatives from Bristol Tennessee giving out candy to all the kids right Now I love the golf cart there you know you’ve got a great little golf cart She’s got a blanket too she was prepared well up next is my favorite part of the Christmas parade city council coming right up there you Go all right r is going to go down and maybe speak with some of the um the council members with Bristol Virginia here they Come and it looks like here comes the mayor the mayor’s handing out candy Merry Christmas hello mayor hello we’re live on WCYB how are you doing tonight I am fantastic how are you doing doing great what’s your favorite tradition of this Christmas parade uh I’m going to eat all this candy if nobody else does well I I wouldn’t recommend that I probably not
Probably not it’s beautiful it’s a wonderful night it’s not too cold the streets are packed it’s it’s a good time to be out in Bristol well thanks for everything you do mayor look forward to seeing Merry Christmas Merry Christmas Merry Christmas here comes representative John Crawford he represents the first district of Tennessee all right great job Randy on your first interview there well I don’t know if it was great but it was an interview I think uh you know if the city manager thing you decide you don’t want to do that anymore you can come on over to WCYB I’m sure there’s plenty of
People that like for me not to do the city manager thing anymore so I may be looking for a job who knows okay well we we’ve got a few openings so we’ll put you in all right the Sullivan County Commission they are here oh and it looks like the John Battle
High School band is coming they are playing hark the heral angel sing tonight for us [Applause] the John Battle band here too they have just finished their football competition season now they’re moving into band competition season well they sound great so they should have a good season this Year sound absolutely great and I love uh the decorations on the instr that’s great they’re having a good time tonight oh yeah definitely all right coming up next it looks like we have the Bristol Virginia Police Department are here again look like they brought the SWAT
Team out it looks like they danc some s it’s snowing here in Bristol thanks to the Bristol Virginia Police Department And here is Bristol fire and Rescue as I mentioned earlier these are some of the First Responders that uh the community really needs to be thankful for they do a great job absolutely the fire department is here as well [Applause] the kids always love to see these vehicles I still love seeing the fire trucks oh yeah oh
Look lighting up the streets here East Volunteer Fire Department and you can just see in the crowd the kids are absolutely loving it oh and look Randy it’s Buddy the it is Buddy the wonder what he’s up to tonight a and look they brought the dalmati so cute one of my favorite dogs
Is a Dalmatian absolutely adorable I love it aoka volunteer fire department is here kids are absolutely loving the Dalmation too was who wasn’t love the dalm exactly and again just thank you to all of our First Responders who are keeping our community safe here’s another live look of State

Exactly what actually where you had horses kingport firefighters Association all right we have another little break here and so far an excellent parade it’s been a great time again a great way to bring in the Christmas season absolutely loving it loving seeing the First Responders the John Battle band and there’s more bands
To come so make sure you stay tuned yeah and I hope the people that are home watching tonight I hope they’re able to come out next year and enjoy the parade in person yes this is one of my favorite parades again cuz it’s at night too and

Teaching our children about say no to drugs and it looks like there’s Sheriff Foster there’s cheer Foster it looks like we have the Dare lion out here as well here’s another one of my favorite pieces of equipment that Bristol Virginia has it’s our Hazmat unit we purchased this several years ago from uh
Los Vegas really yes I did not know that fun fact it’s a beautiful truck I think it’s one of the prettiest trucks in our Fleet and we’ve got the 421 area volunteer firefighters here it’s really great too when you know the First Responders they get to get out and
Interact with the community that they serve yes it’s good for them to be out with people that they serve on a daily basis here is the Bristol Virginia fire department I’m biased but I think they’re the best in the in the region we will put the little uh

Uh work this out so we could be in The Lofts and wouldn’t be as cold as we are maybe I’ll have to call uh Karen and see if she’s got a vacancy at one of her uh LOF Karen Hester one of the downtown business owners and see if she can get us in
Somewhere wo oh look at this next one pretty cool now there is a debate um with this next Flo do you think that The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Christmas movie or is it a Halloween movie I think it’s a Halloween movie you think it’s a Halloween movie well they I think would

Entire parade that’s pretty awesome that’s a long way they definitely got their exercise tonight Hey Baseball fans this next one is for You what going [Applause] on very cool I love the Snowman with the inflatable baseball bat there I’ve never seen one like that I haven’t either pretty Cool so this is the eight and under team TR cities Nationals the Boys and Girls Club is here next great Organization for our community yeah boys and girls club’s been around a long time here in Bristol and they’ve done some great things for the people Here It’s like a local girl scout troop Girl Scout Troop 1166 and here’s su’s Academy Merry Christmas did you know solid Academy started as an all girls college I did not know that yes years ago Now they have preschool through 8th grade Washington County Virginia I love this float it says we love you so Sweet kids decorated that float for Christmas this year very nice float and it said Sol’s a great place to Learn okay so do you have a favorite yet a favorite float that you’ve seen I don’t know if I have a favorite yet they’ve all been great they all have been very good very unique floats uh very creative Too all right here’s another girl scout troop love the Tent where are their cookies at Girls Scout Troop 363 I hope it’s almost cookie time it’s almost time we’re going to take another look from our Sky five drone see the crowds on both sides of the state line there Merry Christmas Merry Christmas Merry Christmas beautiful shot there of the two Bristols what dance studio it’s like they’re going to dance for us this group coming up having a good time Absolutely [Applause] [Applause] a great job by wat St Studio they’re doing a terrific job tonight they’ve danced the whole way down Stak Street too I think they have I’m impressed Next year you should learn the choreography and get out there with them you know I don’t think people would come and watch that it could boost the ratings I doubt it we’d be on a YouTube flop Camp tapingo is up next they have camps for K through 12th grade in Wataga ten Love this too because you know it showcases the reason for the season the reason we celebrate agre there is one reason for the Season Humdinger softball team [Applause] They are also having a great time dancing [Applause] along everyone’s getting candy canes from Humdinger [Applause] softball here is Express Yourself Dance Company in piny Flats Tennessee he love it if there was one dance that I could do it would be tap I wish I knew how to tap thing maybe you should do that next year I better start practicing now
I’ll tell you what I’ll learn to dance you learn to tap and we’ll do it next year okay yeah that sounds great Bristol Dance Academy is coming up next as well wow look at that excellent showc showcasing some of their talent There Bristol Dance Academy we got it hey we got it y we got It we got it we got it no we got it Great job by the ladies there looks Great well you can just see them still coming down St Street here’s a Jacobs Creek Job Corps they do a great service for a lot of disadvantaged Youth in our area they serve kids from 16 to age to age 24 definitely very thankful for them and the community and if you’ve ever been out there to the the Cherokee National
Forest out there it is absolutely beautiful out there everybody needs to go out there and go out to the Jacobs Creek area of south holon lake it’s beautiful and uh it’s one of our great assets here in our region definitely it’s kind of a Hidden Gem it you drive
Out there and it’s absolutely gorgeous so always great to See Jimmy Rogers and Sun flooring in cabinets on Volunteer Parkway in Bristol Tennessee love all the Lights looking here comes the Grinch again how many times have we seen the Grinch tonight we’ve seen the Grinch a lot tonight he’s a he’s a popular person on State Street Tonight action rentals and sales if you have any equipment needs I guess you can go to action rentals and sales and get whatever piece of equipment you need to do some work around your house or on your farm yeah Power Tools scaffolding trailers construction yard maintenance they do a little bit of Everything All right and here is the American Legion Post 145 pack 113 in Bristol Tennessee You can definitely tell everyone is out here really enjoying themselves in the grp oh they’re having a great time tonight I’m glad to see it I’m glad to see it I’m glad to see some some great floats out there too they’ve been some gorgeous floats a lot of people have
Taken a lot of time to make sure they did a great job for tonight’s parade yeah absolutely and definitely very unique too there’s the Grinch Again Zmd construction oh look at his suit it lights up oh wow love it that’s what I’ll wear next year you definitely need That there’s the sneaky Grinch again Robert’s tree and Lawn service for all your tree removal Needs Looks like we have a big inflatable snowman coming down State Street next you can still see lots of crowds out here tonight or lots of people out here big crowd here tonight American roofing company and a very happy Snowman another Grinch too the grinches are everywhere tonight it could be the same Grinch who Knows if it’s the same one he’s got his exercise for the night for sure Check out this truck grany looks awesome that’s a nice Truck this is a DR Horton float and they are building some homes over on the bristle Tennessee side I do believe it’s great we definitely need it we definitely need housing in Bristol so good for Dr Horton for bringing housing to our area it’s fun to see all the light up
Necklaces too and the light up headbands that’s the fun thing about the Bristol parade that it’s at night you know and you can wear some of the the light up necklaces and light up hair you dads a night parade just has a different feel to it than the day
Parades it definitely does I love It you see lots of that coming down State Street the activity bus for Stan it’s the sa and Catholic elves oh the Elves here is Storm and the Tri Cities Triple Threat Allstar team they were the grand champions in 2019 and the champions in 2023 love it they have an ocean theme I like very nice I like that Boer Auto Auction that’s a nice classic car they have love that love the classics oh and here is the traveling bear indoor mini golf have you been able to check that out I have not checked
That out yet they just opened recently here in Bristol I need to go do that one weekend oh yeah absolutely great place to take the family check that out especially in the cold it’d be a great time to do it yeah it’s very nice and it also features um their their uh course

Help the community and especially the homeless community in our area oh yeah absolutely we definitely have um lots of organizations you know helping the homeless especially during the cold months especially during the cold weather this is when that when this when it’s needed most yeah I definitely appreciate them for Sure Open Door bathro Baptist Church again another great reminder of the reason for the Season still lots of candy being given out too a lot never ending you can tell the kids are having a great Time here’s another Grinch how many grinches are we going to see tonight a lot it’s the same one maybe he’s just hopping on different floats love that car that’s what Kagan should get you I think he would have preferred that big truck that we saw uh ear sure would
But I think it’s more about you than it is about him hey that’s what I’m saying happy wife happy life Right That looks great I love the car here that just speaks Christmas to me that is very Christ Tree on the top oh and look at this one covered in light on the top of this one we’ve got presents on top of Victory Baptist Church Central Christian Church is Next here’s another look of State Street from our drone Shot it’s really cool I think to see it from this angle to be able to see the floats from high above Merry Christmas Merry Christmas chras mer Christmas The next float here with it Jesus is the greatest Gift love the big presents that they have on top of their float as well behind them is Discovery Church you know when we talked to um some people earlier too they said the people participating it’s become you know a big tradition for them too just to be able to bring their kids and and sit on these floats and yeah we see a lot of the same

Eating contest did youn I did not I lost to I believe um he was 8 years old so oh wow it’s harder than it looks I think they give me a bigger slice but you know it was all in good Fun here is the Tennessee High School Mighty Viking band in Bristol Tennessee yeah probably Is [Applause] [Applause] Tennessee High School band playing some Christmas tunes for us he a great job by the Tennessee Mighty we had some great Bands tonight to have them out loving loving all the Christmas music too I do too and you know the uh Tennessee high they just held that big
