Well today’s Monday it’s the 8th of January 2024 and uh we were just waiting for a buz and hoping uh our bus passes actually work today there’s a big question about that I’ll talk to you about that a little bit more later on and it’s the first official day of the
Sales in Palmer so I’m sure Anita is going to have lots of fun she’s meeting Ivon and uh well I’ll have to do my own thing see you later see you later well the bus Journey was okay and uh they accepted the car
And uh I need to stay on the bus and I’m getting off here so I’m going to have a little walk from this side of Palmer just coming towards the the river here which is actually quite a lot of water in it sometimes you see this River and it’s
Completely dry which a lot of water in it so the question about the um the bus being free or not is to do with politics and uh it would been originally proposed in uh in the parliament in Madrid that we get 43 million EUR in Palmer May Yorker and the Val
Aris and that was to pay for the free bus for the whole of the island which included farmer however it re another separate issue was uh a man named P deal who was exiled from Spain um because of uh his Miss demeanors in Barcelona now how does that affect this
Well present government is a coalition and without their votes P Demon’s votes he been granted a pardon and uh that uh has allowed him to come back into politics and uh the pardon part of the agreement of the Coalition well that’s also up for another vote so anything
Could happen in the next day or two and it’s the vote on the money for the balaris that comes first and the vote for the pardon that comes second so well I guess it’ll all come out in the watch in the next couple of days but as of
Today we still got three bus passes so I’ll try and keep you up to date on that one so just down there we’ve got safas and I’m just walking down now to iy tress just along there down by the river there’s the hotel Saratoga which has been in the news recently uh well
Not in the news but in a lot of the comments um people who stayed there said it’s really good and uh really Central of course it is Central it’s just on the edge here of uh hay Tres which is like the main or one of the main shopping
Streets and it does get very busy it’s got some nice shots down here green lights can I I get AC cross before it changes this is patio mayorca that I’m crossing at the moment it’s quite early people out for the coffee so the Saratoga hotel is just down
There and it’s just coming up to 10 to 10: in the morning so some shots won’t even be open yet 10:00 is quite a common opening time and uh quite early for people to be out in the morning but you can see it’s the word rakas it’s the the Sails are
On so this is the uh start of the jary sales and uh just in front we’ve got El coton glaze which is one the the big department stores where you’ll find the the big discounts so I’m sure I to will be investigating those it’s the end of the uh Christmas
Holidays now so all the lights here’s the Christmas tree all of these now have to be taken down and it was a big job putting the it’s going to be just as big a job taking them Down certainly felt a lot fresher the last couple of days we went for the walk along the paa and it was quite cold uh very very windy uh had a lot of wind recently I just made it feel even colder the chill factor there Pharmacy here with a cross
And I just missed the temperature 950 12 and 1/ 12° it’s cold uh High mess and it’s got these nice passages that we can walk along and if it’s raining it’s undercover and if it’s uh Sunny got a little bit of shade so it’s a win-win situation and there’s the uh Al cutting
Glaze on the opposite side they got some big signs which say we uh I remember the days in England where on January the 1st was it I guess people would be queuing off outside shops like that and running in that all seems to have been in the past
Now and uh look down here so it too early for most people and of course uh the working population the schools children all gone back to work too early for the shops like closed they’ll be opening up soon see Opticians to come in early and uh think
I need we go for a coffee first with the one I would would normally do but it’s on the other side of par i’ start this side today time R the coffee it’s the hotel almond Diner Maring behind the Tress just take an opportunity to look up and I always told my children look up CU there you see the interesting architecture interestingly the the hotel across the road used to have a restaurant that was Underground used to go there quite often for a menu Del year or a pizza I think
See all the signs that say you can’t park this is all for the Rays the Kings and uh so parking was not allowed in any of these streets as the cavalcade came around Palmer it’s all over and onward now 2 and 1/2 tons of sweets were distributed and we didn’t actually make
It because of the parking and traffic situation it just was uh too busy this little back streets here they some interesting buildings as you wander through There up to 50% off that seems to be the the figure the um Pharmacy in front says up 16° but I think that might be a a sun temperature that we’re looking at just feel a lot warmer if you’re in the Sun was h one of those passages and selecting articles got 70%
Off this is CNA resisting temptation we went to the Festival Park and we fashion out that yesterday I did place and things there that was one of the few places that were Open and there’s another one come across 7 Seconds I’ll wait to cross this one I’m now cross this is the uh bar BOS It’s quite nice to walk through pal as it’s waking up the bars are opening the shops are opening and uh not so busy Yet just uh go into the barn This is all looking very very different from how it’s been over the last uh few weeks it’s been really Busy bars didn’t even set up here yet just a look over on this side uh this is castal Solaria Sol and it’s uh an art gallery so that’s uh different uh artists on there there is a little queue outside Zara they guess so they’re opening at uh
10:00 and this is the Zara shop and uh what a beautiful building that is Zara being Spanish company it’s uh owned by one of the richest men in the world hurry on down just looking at the the buildings and the architecture that buildings have been squeezed in between other Buildings some often quite modern that one there looks a little bit out of place to me Now And that down there is plua De Arena has a fountain in the middle it’s not on at the moment and then as you carry on further down you end up at the Cathedral I’m not going further down I’m carry up this way it’s not the Zara here this is Zara
Home already open it’s just gone 10:00 head up towards coros which is the post office government offices here I’m going to wander down some of the narrow streets now yeah like knitted cars here we have some art galleries in this part see the different works the lab caly Red a building I’ve not actually noticed before but uh do like that Fore foree Spe Another Art Gallery there much in that One This one exhibition by Gallery red so this must be their area and over here we’ve got uh Frederick shopan who spent a winter in mayorca which is not too successful throw off you either yeah you can have your breakfast oh I’m going to go down here cuz it just looks so
Pretty I am just wandering around now so we went to the theater and we went to see The Nutcracker there he Is [Applause] State agents to away down here as well Foree talk To For actually just come out just above the curry offs An interesting little Passage on the corner here is called Rafa and it was one of the first places we came for a coffee and it says re back that’s further reductions so El you sell something other than coffees looks like they’ve got bicycles inside Just below paa Court which is where we were on New Year’s Eve to welcome in the New Year quite a nice Euro pal still has a long way to go with uh graffiti still a lot of it About Sort of guffi I’m complaining About we just about the most important shop in Palmer it’s closed every time I come by it’s closed this is the official store for real mayorca I hope you have better luck than I do not that I was going to go and uh this is PL I Court
On New Year’s Eve this whole area was completely Ram packed with people so much so they had to cut off certain entry Points Just coming up to quarter P 10 according to the clock up there which is the one that uh was ringing out the the bells for New Year down that way takes you down to the cathedral and the garden buildings that are down there and this is the
Pla really for the New Year’s Eve what they really need to do is think of somewhere a bit bigger that they can go to celebrate it in previous years it’s been done in the bourney which is um a bigger area get a lot more people people in I suppose people want
To crowd around this Clock This is the the pla de Santa ulalia and here’s the the church we did come here just before Christmas and uh we had the cila which was uh very well attended there’s a few cafes and bars here people already having breakfast it’s a very narrow streets around here this is the supermarket bip Bar a few leaves on the floor it’s very clean down here another hotel and show you the hotel right in the center of town Right Narrow streets that the cars have to navigate is the brother de San Frances San Francisco and down there is the Temple Gate I’ve covered in several of the videos and uh certainly will be back down there to see how the work is progressing for and here’s the statue of Junipero
Sarah and he is credited with uh going to California and uh that’s where the name San Francisco comes from on a missionary visit the Clusters and Basilica of ran this is the uh the main entrance or the main portal of the B Basilica of the
San Francis and uh you can go inside and visit that’s the the visit over there so uh you pay your money it’s uh 6 to go in uh you get a reduction if you’re a pensioner so I got a bit of reduction um this current facade that we have
Here uh was erected between 166 1621 and 1700 uh according to plans that were drawn up by Francisco Hera uh the new facade replaced the old Gothic style one which was destroyed by Thunder and Light ing in 1580 the construction of the main portal marked the culmination of the
Barack period of mayorca and it is dominated by immaculately crowned by the statue of St George you see I don’t know if you can see the statue of St George there he’s killing the dragon on the left side of the Statue of Raman and to St Dominic part the right side of the statue is the Blessed Don scotus and St Francis of aisi at the bottom I can see now it more clearly so that’s the entrance that’s the way to go in to see the uh the CLS and to get into the Basilica you can’t just go in from this side well it’s a cafe solo for me well Cafe on my own ca g l CH Chees well that was a really nice place uh to stop by and have a coffee and uh really somewhere I probably would never have never have been to before very interesting I just to make a battery change and uh W just outside a youth hostel she next to the uh plumo
Cafe I’m just going to walk around I noticed a little back street again one I’ve never walked down so it’s just uh around this area lots of little narrow streets easy to just uh get lost in well you don’t get lost you just keep walking and you
End up uh coming out somewhere you recognize still the old graffiti but lovely buildings and architecture just needs a bit of a Cleanup he coming up to K Sam samaritana Samaritan look at the lovely passages narrow I think I’ll walk along with the Samaritans imagine people can stretch over from one side to the other it’s so narrow almost touch both walls at the same time and all the scaring as vehicle have come along
Here scrape the wall it’s only a soft Sandstone but people I’ve got garages here look an interesting place actually going to walk down that little Alleyway we just passed it’s a real chill in the air oh this ones are wide much wider now always get two cars down
What an interesting looking place that is chocolate ARA I’m quite busy in there one of the courtyards many Courtyards in Palmer you never know what you’re going to find here theat SS the theater Cafe look at the old brick work and it’s Palmer flamco do es never even heard of this
Place the graffiti goes on so just looking here this Tatro Sands obviously does have different things on I must look this one up and uh see what else they got on very quiet down here there there’s another pla get your rber stamps here this one this PL has got an underground car
Park this is something smaller yeah it has we it’s referred to his P Den Call some sunshine there see where we’ve come out without that that Syndicato and this is the gallery that I uh was talking about in a few videos ago which I’m going to keep my eye on because we should be getting uh beginning of this year sometime a little bit more of an idea of what might be planned for the underground gallery and Pla mayor
As I said Christmas is over and because Christmas is over me the Christmas markets are finished and so uh it’s deconstruction time all of these things have got to be taken down now packed away ready for the next One they’ve already started on that the vendors have moved out And uh they’re coming down very very quickly one’s on the far side already Disappeared but they’re professional so they know know what they’re doing got it done quickly wait here for a bit and get a little bit of sun on my back I think it’s quite amazing what standing just with a sun on your back for a few moments can actually do it’s warms you
Up a little anyway time now it’s coming up to4 12 and I’m meeting Nita and Leon anded off I hope uh for lunch at 1:00 so it’s going to start heading in the uh Direction but uh just go along here this is called Sam Miguel and uh it’s got lots of shops on
It and uh lots of shop with rakas with the SS as we came in on the bus quite a few people were wearing masks and uh just looking around in seen a few people also wearing masks um we’ve got a terrible flu epidemic at the moment and that’s kind coinciding with um an increase in the number of
Covid positives and we we’ve uh met or know people who’ve were covid positive um and it’s overwhelming a little bit the uh the hospitals um in fact some of the GPS have actually gone into the hospitals to help out uh it’s not so serious here I think it
Might be more serious in different parts of the Mainland where the government are actually suggesting that everybody wears a mask in a a hospital or medical center situation not out in the town not in the shops but uh if you go to a hospital to visit someone wear a
Mask I’m fine with that but it’s not being called for here in mayorca at least not yet that uh remains to be seen they they are suggesting it’ll might take another week or two before we get the peak of the uh cases of particularly the flu uh cuz what’s happened now people
Have gone back to work and uh children have gone back to school and so should be or could be a spike in the number of people with uh cases we to see what happens with that One it’s the churcha of San Miguel doing any more churches today I’ve done my Bit 13° the temperature says There’s one temperature across the road there says 23° that’s the the difference between a sun temperature and the shap temperature the real temperature is 13° uh but obviously if you’re in the sun it does feel that bit warmer Okay no no no that’s what I Want work this is where we came to see the incredible B in all of those sort of things are now be dismantled and uh put away till next year nice to see this church open Guys that’s the Oliver market and uh it’s a Monday today so I’m not going to bother with the Oliver Market because on Monday there’s there’s no fish in there and uh that’s really something to go and have a look at not on a Monday the uh restaurant we’re going to
Is actually on the Via Roma uh so different way I could have gone through uh PL my but I’m actually going to go uh down Kos walk Around Had an opportunity today to go into B to see how the work’s going on there but uh I can assure you the work is still going on there and we’ll be going on for some Time I need to my shoes Out As uh Fluffer down here this One’s another pedestrianized shopping street lots of little shops all the way down and this takes us down to the top of the vioma where the Miser acordia is in the General Hospital get your glasses sunglasses Good morning still working still working remember me yes to see you see you We still Walking let your pizza a skate shop over there not for me I’m afraid my skating days were over a long time ago Foreign fore speech speech Spee Another moner says 13° so I’m tending to think that that’s the Temperature Just at the top of the top of the steps in front of that’s pla patinas that’s the roller skating area it’s actually a an area where they do roller skating um almost like ballet and uh also we’re locating games and sometimes they have a a little market there as
Well coming to the Bottom now of K alot Spe Another ilano we had a a lunch at an ilano in palmanova really nice that’s where the uh Freya had the Mickey M bunny ears Pizza really Cool front that’s Clinic of R that’s private Hospital the road up there is the General Hospital at it’s a public state hospital and in front is the misery accordia where there’s a library and where we had the living Bellin which I didn’t get to see it’s the sightseen bus that goes
Around Palmer you can hop on and hop off we did it we weren’t very impressed but uh maybe we live here and not easily impressed with things we’ve seen a thousand Times uh this is where we were some Christmas Market stalls they all closed now and uh I guess they’ll start to dismantle these very very soon the flower stalls or they remain cuz that’s uh part and parcel of the aroma Beautiful Flowers the uh CAF that we’re going to is one we’re going to down here it’s one we’ve been to many times before and uh it’s a foundation so it’s a charity so uh it helps helps with the foundation and uh you to meet at about
1:00 so I’m a bit early about half an hour so I might try and find a a bench in the Sun so I can sit down and uh just watch the wheel go By I just wonder how big a bag is going to have weather she done lots of shopping today she resisted she said she was going to get some coffee I don’t think that be the sale but uh she goes to an espresso shop and buys coffee Foreign spee Spee Sh You have a f Okay Ready this is the uh restaurant we’re going to aspas Cafe Rambler I just need to wait for the girls to come now oh we just had a lovely lunch at asass and we’ve walked along uh to our bus stop and uh we’re just waiting for the bus now to go home
