Hello welcome to the PO slide uh technical tips video today I am with lar saer and we will give you some tips about setting up a good position for Skating in this video we’ll help you to give you some advice for setting up a good position for skating actually there is only two elements that slow us down when we skate there is the friction of the wheels with the ground and there is the position of our body for air
Resistance so we need to set up a good upper body uh position to help to fight against the air resistance yes just like Pascal said the friction with the ground slows us down so it’s really important you choose a good set of wheels for skating so the main advice to setting up
The upper body position is to bring your shoulders down you can see that most of the skater when the skate they will get quite aerodynamic by having the upper body very flat or with maybe the the shoulders little bit over the hip but not much more than this so try to bring
Your shoulders down try to stay aerodynamic from your upper body by bringing the movement around the hip bring your shoulders down to get this super aerodynamic position in your upper Body Actually when you want to maintain this aerodynamic position from your upper body it should not cost you more energy if you stand up or if you stand more aerodynamic it’s the same cost almost for your body but it’s just more mental strength so you need to really use your
Brain you need to force your yourself to maintain this position but in term of energy it will not cost you more actually you will only gain energy because you will be more aerodynamic and you will have less uh problem to fight the air Resistance now that you worked and you set up your upper body position it’s time to decide on the height of your hip you have to know here that if we try to bring the hip more down the more we bring the hip down like maybe like short rack skater
Or like I skater would be too much it will cost us a lot of energy the more we bring the hip down so it doesn’t really work well for scating even if the bring if the hip is going down we get a better grip we only want to maintain a quite
Low position only when we Sprint but when we start to do more kilomet when we do marathon or long long distance race we can accept to bring the hip a little more up if you look B swings for example in most of the race you will see that
His hip is quite high it’s not like super deep like when he’s on the eyes so remember this if you go long distance you can bring the Hep little more high if you do Sprint you bring the hip little more down and uh but don’t go too
Low like ice skater also don’t go too straight because then you don’t have any power to do the push if your he is too high so depending of the distance you are skating if you are skating a marathon you can have the hip little bit
More up if you are skating a 200 M or 500 M race it’s okay to bring the hip little more down to get more power setting up the height of your hip you can actually compare a little bit to setting up the seat of your bike if the
Seat is too low or if we are too low in skating it’s really hard and it costs us lots of energy if the seat is up too high we can’t reach the pedal and in skating similar we don’t get enough push so it’s really important to find the right position of
Your hip for a perfect [Applause] skating Like Okay one more element when you are skating you really want to have the upper body very stiff very compact not too stiff and completely contract but you want to be quite compact with your upper body when you skate so if for example if I put pressure on the hip and
On the opposite shoulders like this you should not be easy to move you want to contract little bit the transverse muscle so when you put pressure like this you can see Larisa keep stability and this is the feeling we want to get to get a compact position during skaing
Thanks for following the power light technical video and we hope to see you in the next Episode
