Not have no interest in now at all so I guess that was part of it and you know but in the 80 in the late 80s and even going into the early 90s you know here in Atlanta we had the Jack the rapper convention which was amazing it was a
Big hip-hop convention Prince actually came and played for that one too major um and then you had you had all the the the satellite shows that would happen during freaknick you would have um there was so much going on in this city and what was the other one that
There was another Music Festival that happened in multiple locations it’s right on the tip of my tongue it was a it was a local music festival but they had like you know big acts that they would bring into trying to remember the name of that
One uh you should know it was very very similar to to the the kind of thing that you do but this one was like here in Atlanta oh I just had it uh I’ll think about it um Atlantis Atlantis Music Festival I want to say it was Atlantis
But there was another one too but there anyways they’ve had tons of music festivals here in Atlanta and Atlanta is I love the fact that Atlanta is like the The Hot Spot of it was just you know it’s just real yeah oh yeah yeah the cool jazz festival was always fantastic too and
Uh there’s there’s some of these things it’s just yeah yeah freaknick was awesome but freaknick was more about the hangout not really about shows the shows just kind of happened as a result of because people knew bands and artists knew that people were going to be in town and
Wanted to be clubbing so they would strategically it’s kind of like what happens during the celebration in Minneapolis people know that there’s gonna be a bunch of Prince fans in there and if you’re any band that’s even remotely Funk oriented or can play some print songs you want to make make sure
That you’re playing that weekend somewhere in Minneapolis because all those thousands of people are going to be out and about trying to find some place to go so you just want to make sure that you’re at a venue so yeah yes Brian frck is a whole different

Gonna I wanted to ask a question that was going to engage people and I was thinking to myself I’m gonna pick two Prince albums that uh are iconic albums that are like the you know what some people would consider his best albums ever and I’m going to do a verses just
To kind of see just to kind of see what would happen and um so I was like all right let’s start with sign of the times I was like oh well the problem with sign of the times is the double album let me think about the other double
Albums and I thought about emancipation I was like well that’s a triple album and crystal ball was also a triple album yeah seems like a good versus might be Crystal Ball versus emancipation um but crystal ball is more of a collection of songs where his emancipation he it was kind of a little
Bit thematic form I don’t know that may be the next verses but the verses that I went with was sign of the times versus 1999 because both of which are double albums both are which many consider legendary now I love both of these freaking albums without without a doubt I love both of
These albums matter of fact two of my all-time favorite songs are on sign of the times which are if I was your girlfriend and ballot of Dorothy Parker which just structurally I just think are just some of the most perfect songs freaking ever written but uh when I cast my
Vote my vote um was for 1999 and and the reason why um is just not only because of the fact that um and I want to make sure I don’t miss anything here um not only because of the fact that it’s it holds a very special
Place as far as the being a the first concert that I ever saw of Prince was a 1999 chore so that kind of has a special place but all of the songs that are on this album are just it’s just Banger after Banger Let’s Pretend We’re married something in the water Dmsr automatic lady cab driver all the critics love you in I mean it’s just it’s just like this Al is just act full of these Funk bangers and it’s not you know when you think of like the the level of production and the level of intricacy in the songs and everything
Sign of the times wins hands down because his his production was just was just on some other freaking level when he got to when he got there uh and on top of that he had so much that was going on with himself and the decisions that he made about Revolution and you
Know okay I’m just screw it I’m starting from scratch type of thing you know um it was just yeah I mean he was next level inide of the times absolutely but just for all the songs that I’ve mentioned not including even the title track 1999 I mean it’s really really tough to
Even pick a pick a weak song on this album because even when I said all let pick a weak song all right um I’m talking about 1999 let’s talk about delirious and I was but but even if I’m honest with myself when Delirious was all over the
Radio back in the day I love that song yeah yeah it was great uh and so it’s just it’s just a banger from beginning to end it’s just it’s just ridiculous it’s just doesn’t yeah and it’s and so that’s what was my vote but everybody was like hardcore no no it’s
It’s sign of the times and I was just like certainly it’s got to be more it’s got to be more even keeled than that but I I so I went ahead and put put it on Twitter now obviously we don’t have a lot of engagement on Twitter as much as
We do on Facebook uh but I put it on Twitter because it gave me the capability to actually run a poll you can’t run a poll on Facebook on a page you have to do it in a group and then once again you’re you know you don’t
Have the full you don’t have the full picture uh so anyway so I put it up there and it’s this is this was the last result here where I just pulled it up what was it well that says that’s not even yeah see I don’t even have I think

Going but it’s like and then when 1999 hit it was like what where do you go from here and then of course Purple Rain happened uh but it was just 1999 was again all those fraking songs that were on 1999 is just insane yeah it’s just I love 1999 you
Know sign the times has a something about about it that felt um feels more grown up also or like artsy artsy yeah you know what I mean like it it some of that edge that you had in 1999 and and prior is just it smoothed over and
Polished yeah you know what I mean so now you’re like there’s the Pearl you know that’s so yeah it’s it’s it’s all sweet and you know it’s like you know 1999 was just Raw was just it was just raw just that’s it was just that raw I mean
Because the intricacy of even the instrumentation it wasn’t even there wasn’t like a bunch of orchestration it wasn’t anything like that it was just this punch you in the face let’s get funky it was really just body slamming you in the face with Beats and in these Funk riffs that were
Just uh what is it uh what’s lady cab driver there’s this one part in lady cab driver towards the end where it’s breaking and it makes this elephant noise that’s in the backround that’s like every time I hear it coming up I’m like oh turn this up this is
Awesome I love this he just used these sound effects to make everything just kind of just come to life even I mean lady cab driver in itself is a uh I mean it’s like one of the songs you can like blast because you know when he gets to
The end of the song and he’s doing what he’s doing the lady C driver to that point yeah you kind of like it’s just like wow this is just like fade it just it has these perfect fraking Funk Pockets that is just unrival again I don’t there’s nothing
Against side of the time sent times has some amazing tracks on it some of my favorite songs on there I mean again if I was your girlfriend unfreaking Reed it’s gonna be a beautiful night what a great freaking live track with the I mean I just
Cross I’m sorry the cross is such a great song to play and the story behind the cross is is is freaking awesome too not not lyrically but this the story that Susan Rogers told about how you know when he was putting the putting the foundation for the cross down she was
Like I don’t understand why he doesn’t have a metronome going He is building up and building up and building up and building up and he’s not as he’s layering on instruments I don’t know understand how he’s going to be able to match this and match the Rhythm that

1999 just there’s nothing that breathes and is more raw and more Funk than 1999 it is the most consistently Funk album that Prince had hands down yeah you can look at every single album across even considering controversy and everything else if you really look at the songs
That are on the album at the songs that are on all those albums there’s always like a handful that are like I don’t know what this is grow on you then it does yeah it’s like you know I mean even with controversy you had controversy you had sexuality and
Then all of a sudden they were doing you know weird things he was he was doing that punk thing with the Ronnie talk to Russia and jack you off and things I was like this where are we going um you know it’s just there’s always those types of songs is what I’m
Saying that are always kind of woven into the albums but 1999 it’s just like pop pop pop pop pop just oh man anyways love it it’s just fantastic as do I all right let’s move on to the next topic uh for those that missed it I think it was on

To say but he was also talking about he gave Prince major major major props talking about there will never be another artist like Prince period end the story and I was like wow that’s pretty powerful for somebody like Simon Cal to say who you know you know it’s
Just it was pretty amazing but anyway so the story goes is that they all the producers there’s a whole story that kind of goes into that clip that’s that’s playing on Facebook I would play it but I don’t want to get hit with copyright strikes here um so essentially
What happened was they wanted to do purple rain but uh the producers were coming in and saying saying you’re not going to get propar they never clear propar you’re just not going to get propar it’s not going to clear you’re not affiliated with the estate it’s not
GNA clear it’s not going to clear and Simon Cal was like I’m gonna figure out a way to make this clear so long story short obviously as you can see from their performance here with the Prince symbol on both sides of the stage that they were able to get that
Clearance and what’s really really cool so I I I can’t say it enough um that I have to give a shout out to whoever the powers that be that made it happen now I know I gave a shout out to londelle and Charles and and and the
Group but I believe that the ones that are responsible for the like for the licensing part of it is the primary wave the primary oat which is primary wave um which primary o is what uh Omar uh a is uh then taica anyways it’s now primary wave because they sold their rights over
To primary wave so now that se segment is primary wave so I think primary wave because of the fact they oversee the music they were the ones that kind of would give the licensing and the rights but for all I know it could have been londell and Charles had their
Involvement in it um whoever it was and Simon cows was relentless you can see it in the video he was relentless in making sure that they got the clearance for this this performance of purple rain is unreal the the um the way that it flowed there was very
Um it was it was the blend the Blends the blending of their vocals throughout every part was so I don’t know like Smooth gentle like it was just everything about it was like oh my gosh yeah it was ridiculous it it really was and on top of that there wasn’t you know
A lot of there wasn’t any much much instrumentation it was just them vocally doing it and they kind of started off a really kind of soft really different structure they structure the song differently um but it was you got to check it out go to facebook.com

About this this is uh this is a 37th anniversary of mad house 8 and I was shocked actually because somehow somehow I managed to have held on to this freaking album all these years and it’s still in it’s still in pretty great condition um there’s some you know there’s a little
Bit of you know wear and tear you know as albums will will have I don’t remember if there ever was an insert but you know it’s just cellophane and everything but um this album right here Matt house 8 celebrated its 37th anniversary 37 years and a lot of
People you know what I was surprised about is that I I named it and I I brought attention to it and one of the things that again this is one of those these people get wacky this was Prince’s first uh instrumental album that he released was mad house
8 and um I had people just losing their minds when I said that that’s not true he had had 94 East and Minneapolis genius well first off 94 East is Minneapolis genius uh it was Pepe Willy’s project not Prince’s Prince just played on it right and uh when Prince
Gained notoriety then it got changed over and pepy will tell you this he’s been on the show uh that it became Minneapolis genius because they wanted you wanted to sell it to kind of you know push it a little bit and Prince obviously wasn’t you know too thrilled
About it and you so was like well you forgot my 94 East and was like okay well and then of course somebody else said it again and then uh I said 948 is Pepe’s project this wasn’t Prince was on it but he wasn’t it wasn’t his project and was like I’m not talking
About I’m not talking about 94 East I’m talking about the luring Park sessions I was like the luring Park sessions was this kind of like a a jam session type of thing that was him and Chris Moon and I mean Chris Moon was you know doing some songs and they just recorded stuff
But it wasn’t it was just a session it wasn’t it wasn’t released as a project it wasn’t a released album and technically it’s not it was unreleased it’s been leaked out but it’s not it’s unreleased would you guys stop this Ridiculousness this was Prince’s first freaking instrumental album leave it
Freaking alone wow like this is I mean I’m like literally being attacked regularly on this this whole thing I was like wow all right so here is what’s interesting about this too there’s a couple things that I I personally um didn’t learn until I don’t know probably here’s what I first say when
This album came out I didn’t realize that it was Prince because first um I saw this in the in the record the Reco I I saw it there but it doesn’t say this is is Prince playing on this it didn’t have any stickers saying featuring Prince and there was nothing
Like that you knew that it was released from from his Studio you knew that um they made it it made it what what was the they said it was uh recorded live at mad house studios in Philadelphia I think it was Philadelphia which led people to believe that it was
An Eric leed’s project but this album is completely 100% just prince and Eric leads and here’s a couple other things until and I did not know that because there is no indicators on this album who’s playing none right right it didn’t even say didn’t say prince was playing
Anything didn’t say Eric was playing didn’t just nothing it’s just it’s just prince and Eric Leeds Prince plays all the instrumentation everything except for the horns and flute which was Eric Leeds everything this is Prince this Prince basically I thought and I believed for decades specifically because of um specifically because of
Seven um the song seven I firmly believed without a doubt that um seven was uh shile e the style of druming that’s on seven sounds just like um it sounds just it sounds just like uh Sheila’s playing so M and and and I’ll play it because I don’t think
We’re gonna have any problems with this one because I’m pretty sure this is not in the mix because they haven’t done anything but we’ll see here is just so for those who don’t remember seven oh here was the other shocking thing many people didn’t even know about this album
When I posted about this people were like wow I didn’t even even know about this I think I saw a couple people referencing on here was just like What’s um what’s that uh but check this out so if you listen to the if you listen to the drums it sounds just like
Sheila E’s style of drumming that’s it it it just sounds just like it check this out do this First Style right here just Like I mean all that being said it sounds just like freaking Sheila langang it has that same tone that same tone that she used to how she used to tone her snare that everything about it and I thought for years that’s Sheila that’s Sheila that’s Sheila that’s Sheila and then
Come to find out I mean even after talking to Dwayne to doll and and it was like no it’s not she it’s Prince I was like I just I I can’t get around the fact that that that that was Prince playing like that not that I’ve because
That’s the other thing too is I’ve never really seen him play drums I’ve seen clips of him playing drums but never like that you know um everything that I’ve ever heard him play has been pretty straightforward it’s not I mean great stuff but I’ve never I’ve never really heard him play like
That and that’s the really reason why my mind got stuck that Sheila that’s Sheila but definitely has Sheila es all over it oh my gosh yeah so uh all that being said happy 37th anniversary to mad house a what a great fraking album and I see everybody uh everybody’s talking about

Met Prince and uh obviously most people only know her from um from graffiti bridge right um and and it was interesting she was talking about how she met Prince and um a lot of people may or may not know this also but she’s a very very heavily heavy spiritual
Person and she that was such a um it had such an impact on Prince that when um he met her she had such an impact on him that he cancelled the Black Album and instead and The Black Album had already been done had already been pressed was
Already ready to go was even being shipped out to the the record stores and everything and was about you know there was some that already went early or whatever um but and then he decided to do love sexy instead she was the reasoning for this she was the reasoning for all that
Madness and one of the questions that I asked her on that interview was you know you know what did you think when you realize you know when he did he ever divot to you that you know you were the reason why you know spir it wasn’t her specifically it was the the
Messages and the spirituality lessons and stuff that she taught him that because he was in a really really dark place at the time which was the core of what what the black album’s Foundation was was you know um and then because it was such a dark time for him that’s why
Kind of Black Album came out and then she kind of brought this light in and then he said don’t buy the Black Album the black album’s evil and then it became spooky electric was the reasoning that the Black Album happen and that’s the reason why spooky electric came into
The love sexy theme and whatever uh but it’s really interesting to kind of see some of the the progression of everything that happened with um I don’t know it’s it’s pretty unusual um and she is just I love the stories that she told she she said that
She met prince in uh a pub uh it was more of a bar and um it was called Williams Pub and he was sitting by himself not by himself he was kind of with his little group Entourage and he just looked really really lonely and she
Wrote a note on napkin that said hi REM uh hi remember me probably not because we’ve never met smile I love it when you smile and that’s what she wrote on a napkin and sent it over to him and then he brought her over and they were kind
Of chitchatting and he was like what your name and he said she said my name is Gertrude and she said what’s your name and he said my name is Dexter so for a long time they referred to themselves as Gertrude and Dexter and that kind of
Went on she even said that I I don’t even remember ever calling him Prince I always just called him Dexter um so she has like a long it’s like a long stored history with Prince I mean you don’t see her a lot other than outside of graffiti bridge um and then
Of course you know and she’s got a pretty big she’s got a pretty big history of um pretty big history of in music because even during the graffiti bridge uh era she went into the studio with Lenny Kravitz and recorded the song justify my love and Madonna heard it and basically
Took it and released it and when she released it ingred never got credit for the song even though she wrote the song with Lenny kravis Lenny kravis did most of the mus did the music along with another gentleman I can’t remember the person’s name um David GS I can’t
Remember who it was uh but she wrote all the lyrics to it and she had the exact same delivery that Madonna had on justify my love matter of fact ing’s even released her own version of justifying my love which is basically the version that you know and Madonna
Didn’t even bother to even change the the breathiness or any of that stuff she just kind of put it out just like that and when they released the song ingr got no credit for it and she was gonna let it go um she was gonna let it go and then
Prince heard it on the radio and said that’s your song isn’t it like he knew just because of the fact that Madonna delivered it the exact same way that ingred did he knew that that was that was her because Madonna was this was not Madonna style Madonna had a whole
Different vibe going on before this song came out and the whole Sex book and all that stuff a whole different vibe going on so Prince knew right out of the gate from the delivery and what was happening that it was her song and he basically
Got under her case and said this is your song isn’t it she goes yeah you know whatever whatever he said you need to get the rightous song you need to fight for this because if you do this you’re going to be run over and you know got
Out a case about the music industry and everything and so she did and she won her case against Madonna and Lenny krabit and it’s uh yes they he won the case did everything it’s it was a long uous battle but it was cool because there’s a lot and a lot of people don’t
Know this too but uh if you saw the love sexy tour which was uh an amazing Tour by the way fantastic tour you guys may have remembered uh a track called cross the line that was included in you know because there was lot of theatrics and
