Life is moving on so fast for us at the moment! It’s important for us to take a moment to stop, breathe and appreciate exactly where we are.
We know there are still a lot of questions about our new space The Skate Sanctuary – even we don’t know the answers to some of them.
What will the timetable look like?
How many people will the studio hold?
What will the shop opening hours be?
When will the studio open?
We don’t have experience of opening closing a shop and opening a space that incorporates both shop and studio, so these are questions we are going to figure out as we go along.
We are expecting that our current shop hours will remain the same – we definitely encourage anyone who would like to try roller skates to book a skate consultation so we can make sure you get the attention you need.
We would also suggest you check ahead of time our latest opening hours using our website, Google and our social media to stay up to date. We thank you in advance for your patience while we work out a schedule that suits as many people as possible.
Our studio is designed for small group sessions and private sessions. It also makes a perfect practise and party space – yes those long awaited parties!
We will be mostly offering various roller dance sessions – this has been founder Mel’s passion since 2015 (when she first realised roller dance was not just the macarena on skates). Expect sessions to support skaters at every level of your roller dance journey delivered by our skilled team of coaches and guest coaches.
We have 7 more days of our current Kickstarter campaign to run. Thank you to every person who has backed our move to The Skate Sanctuary.
The money you have pledged will support us to minimise expensive loans we need to take to get the space up and running.
· legal fees and other hidden costs of moving premises. Deposits are very expensive and we cannot move without one.
· Professional fees to build within the space. Everything within our space will be bespoke and made to fit. While we will do this as cost effectively as possible, we also want to use good quality materials that will last. No point in doing a makeshift job for a six months only to have to replace it later. That benefits no-one. As we always say – buy the best you can afford.
· The building materials and furniture.
· Our staff are important. We want a space that is going to work for the people using it. That means being open for as many hours as possible. We know we will need more staff to help us achieve this (but until we have settled on a working timetable, we won’t be recruiting). Ensuring we have the best team is an investment we are willing to make as we know everyone gets a better experience.
We have already received significant support from the skate community in Leeds and beyond including many offers to support the setting up of the space, donations of time and equipment. We are very grateful for these and will put a call out for support once we know what we can afford to do.
In conclusion – we don’t have all the answers, but we are excited to be on this journey with you to our next chapter.
We’ve recently added a new pledge for a class pass – pre-paid sessions that will be cheaper now than once we release our timetable.
