Greetings from Rio de Janeiro Brazil!
It’s been four and a half years since I was last here in Rio, my second home where I spent 3-5 months every winter before COVID for about eight years.
A Facebook memory triggered seeing this music video which shows my life here, with energetic, musically talented friends, having fun in the sunshine.
The song is in Portuguese and the title is “A Caipirinha da Gringa” – The Gringa’s Caipirinha (which is Brazil’s national cocktail made of limes, rum, sugar and lots of ice!
The lyrics are hilarious as they go on to say
“Eu Quero o bolo da gringa, e o mousse tambem” which means “I want the Gringa’s cake and her mousse as well” which pertains to the ONLY cake I can bake (super simple with only 4 ingredients) and a chocolate mousse that I used to make but have since stopped making (no idea why)?
It’s strange and lovely to be immortalised in a song and to appear in the video.
The lady in orange shaking a percussion instrument is my oldest friend Dani who I’ve known for 36 years since we were 15 years old! Without her, my Brazilian winters would never have happened. They were when I focussed on writing the scripts and plans for many of the online courses.
Check it out here for some authentic Brazilian flavour and a window on my life here.
Hope this will brighten up your day.
