Roller Skating 101: How to Get Up On Roller Skates?
So you’ve got new skates, only problem is you don’t quite know how to get up.
Unless you can find a chair everywhere you go or ensure you never fall down, you’re going to need to know how to get up off the ground.
And yes, we’ve all been there!
Help! I can’t get up
You have either put your skates on while sitting on the ground or you have somehow found yourself on the ground with skates on and now you need to get up.
Artistic coach and skater Chloe has taught many absolute beginners how to get up.
It might seem scary at first but you can do it, we believe in you.
Here’s Chloe’s 5 easy steps to getting up on roller skates.
Step 1.
Bring your knees to your chest to make rolling onto one side easier.
Step 2.
Roll onto one side, and kneel on both knees.
Hot tip: wearing knee pads with give you more comfort (and protection).
Step 3.
Bring one leg up into a lunge position.
Step 4.
You will now use your knee as support to get up. Put both hands on your knee. Engage your core. Push down onto your front knee to lift up at the same time as you push off the back foot to come to standing.
Step 5.
Once you are up make sure your knees are bent and use your arms to balance. This ensures you have a lower centre of gravity and you’re less likely to fall.
Yay! You did it.Β
