Committee members and so on and various committee members now I am also in the research board and so on so I’m quite acquainted with that and being a a night for so many years like everyone I take pride in every happening every positive thing which is happening in Anna
University as it was uh described by Professor VRA just now but not only that even far back uh yesterday only I was talking to my uncle uh in our family people are mostly lawyers and others only two people are Engineers one was my my uncle and one is
Me and my uncle passed chemical engineering from SE Tech in 1968 and he is now settled in myour and he told me yesterday tell there that I am the one who started the movie Club of the hostels of acch so the connection is quite long but I’m here here not to talk about
Myself or my connection I am here today to talk talk about the graduates all of you and what I feel on this great day is to understand the quality of Education that you have got now do you have any regret that you could have got little more on the other
Side of the road in IIT don’t have that great because you have made a quite a good start I always tell that life is not a 100 m run it’s a marathon in a 100 met run you know you have seen recently the Asad right in a
100 met runs all the photographers go to the starting point because when you will be running for 10 seconds your start is very important if you lose half a second there you are gone but in a marathon have you seen any photographer going to the starting point doesn’t matter in Marathon you start
Three 3 seconds less it doesn’t matter do you have the stamina to run for 2 and 1 half hours do you have the stamina not to break down in you know 40 kilm that is what decides a marathon and hence life is not a 100 met run
Life is a marathon and so in a marathon you have made a start at at Anna University a good University but still it doesn’t matter what matters is how much stamina you have got to run now you have made a good beginning but the beginning is not so important the
Important thing is whether you have got the stamina it’s not not that those who graduate from IIT Madras are automatically successful you tell me I will tell you thousands of failure stories it’s not that those who are coming out of I you know from ANA University will do anything inferior to

The director of IIT I don’t have an IIT degree I don’t even have a foreign degree I I got my PhD from an nit nit Rella so I don’t even have an nit degree but yes I taught not only at nit and IIT but I taught at MIT Massachusetts Institute Institute of
Technology this is this is not to beat my drum this is to tell you that if you have the stamina and you can run for two you know the whole life you can go to any point let me start with you know tell that with a bit of anecdote when I
Joined in IIT Madras one day you know young faculty members after taking class they go to canteen for a cup of coffee so I was going suddenly one senior came young boys what are you doing say Sir going for coffee are you doing research we are trying sir how many Publications
You have got now that time we just enter somebody said five somebody said six you know I have got 70 Publications I said you are great I I have done this I have got so many projects He kept on saying now we are going for coffee who wants to hear
Are who have you what you have done so I thought I must stop this person so I said sir there’s one thing I have got what you you don’t have got so he was surprised he said what is that you have got I don’t have got have you got a
Patent I said no have you written a book I said no then what is that you have got what I don’t have got I said I have got another 35 years sir you don’t have got meaning that in 35 years I can overtake you and exactly that’s what

Rule money power and fame if you run behind them they will never come to you for the first 15 years just forget them and learn your profession if you learn your profession you will find that these things are running behind you you don’t even have time to enjoy them and that’s

Experiment what do I do and we keep on doing enthusiasm the initiative the second ey so if you have good intention good initiative you will be successful but but there is a third eye the value of which you will not understand today but down the line in your career you
Will understand that and the third eye is very important it’s Integrity intention initiative and integrity honesty now I’m telling this is very important because at the beginning of your career you will see there a temptation to make shortcuts there are there are Temptations to do a little bit this way
How does it matter everybody does it I can also do it no sir what is wrong is wrong what is unethical is unethical put a full stop no this cannot be done and then you go ahead you lose you lose something for the time being you will lose something but you
Will understand in the long run you gain so these are the three eyes why I said three eyes because people keep on saying you know I could not become successful because of you know college because of my principal because of you know my colleague my management see you don’t have any
Control how your surrounding will be you have only control over yourself so these three things you have control whether you will have good intention whether you will take initiative or whether you will become honest it doesn’t depend on anybody it doesn’t depend on your gu guide it
Doesn’t be you know uh depend on your boss or anyone or your colleague it depends only on you and that defines what you are going to be it’s a Time the graduation day is a very happy day but this is also a day to Define you

At all only English medium I studied in English for 11th standard up tolc I studied in Tamil medium Tamil but when I entered into pu there was only English no Tam even the teachers lecturers they will not speak in Tamil they will speak only in English those students they are agreeing
With all those things because they might have studied p and all those things when I studied PC in kadalur arts college government arts college once a chemistry professor was teaching to us he said law floating then I asked his one question sir don’t speak in ask the question in
English I went to the hostal and referred the dictionary and law of floating means in the 100 m d marathan he compared 100 m d and marathan when I studied in early classes I was more an average student when I entered into the college and when I enter be politics M hist and

That in Tamil I was only an aage student but I was promoted double promotion was there in those days when I studied in fourth class fourth form I was promoted to fifth form this is mainly in those days it is because of the influence of the teachers my father and mother were
Teachers in those days that is why I got double promotion in year now there is no double promotion at all now it is so when I entered into the college I concentrated on education that is what he said 100 fining finishing is more important that is what he
