Here is everything you need to know to prepare for a fabulous roller disco in one of Leeds’ most iconic buildings.
When: Saturday 28th October 2023
Where: Leeds Corn Exchange What 3 words location: barks.spent.smoke
Time: 7pm start if you have a ticket for the Class + Disco 8.30pm if it’s Disco only
Entry:
We will open the doors at 6.45pm for Class + Disco ticket holders.
We will admit main Disco ticket holders to the building from 8.10pm.
Use the lower ground floor entrance to the side of the building, opposite Honest Burger.
Cloakroom: We will provide space on the lower ground floor for bulky bags, outer layers and shoes. These items will be left at your own risk. There are no lockers in the Corn Exchange.
We suggest you keep your valuable items with you at all times.
Roller Girl Gang staff and volunteers are not responsible for your items, and will not be held liable for any loss.
We will also have a small seating area as you enter the main concourse to put skates on or off. Please do not leave personal items on these chairs as our team will move them to the downstairs cloakroom. There will be additional storage for shoes in this area.
Dress Code: There isn’t one! This is a roller disco. It is Hallowe’en themed, but wear whatever you will be comfortable to skate in. For those wanting to dress up in Hallowe’en attire, we will be holding a fancy dress skate parade during the evening and look forward to seeing your costumes.
Refreshments: Snacks and hot / cold soft drinks will be available from Bruschetta cafe on the concourse until 10pm. All dietary requirements will be catered for. It is fine to bring your own refillable water bottle. This can be refilled in the balcony level facilities.
Roller Girl Gang shop: Our shop will be open until 9.30pm, so please get yourself in as soon as possible! We offer a number of services, including swapping your wheels from £5, so you can have light up wheels fitted while you wait. Our shop can get very busy during the roller disco, so it may be worth a trip during the day, particularly if you want to buy roller skates 😉
Why are we using the lower ground floor?
After the Valentine roller disco, we realised we need more space, so are spreading out to the lower ground floor. Here you will collect any skate hire equipment and leave any bulky bags and outdoor shoes or coats. Toilet facilities are also located on this floor.
Skaters will use the internal stairs to access the main concourse.
Please use the chairs provided to pop your gear on and off you go!
Respect Policy
Roller Girl Gang are proud to support and serve a diverse community. We expect all skaters accessing our spaces to do support our aim by showing respect to others at all times.
During the event, we expect you to be mindful of folks and furniture around you. Events in Leeds Corn Exchange are our busiest events and we expect everyone to skate with consideration. That means more experienced skaters must not rapidly weave through less experienced skaters. We will offer opportunities for different skaters to showcase their outfits (assuming you are in fancy dress) so listen for your turn! There will be no speed skate at this event, as the venue is simply not designed for it.
Our volunteer marshall team and St John’s Ambulance are here for everyone’s safety during the event. Please follow the marshalls’ instructions when given. If our marshalls feel you are skating in a way that lacks consideration, you will first be asked to rectify this behaviour. If you continue to skate without consideration, you will be asked to remove your skates and leave, and no refund will be given. We ask everyone to be more cautious in Leeds Corn Exchange, as the traders/shop owners within the building kindly move their furniture for the event. And due to fixed furniture, there are significantly more risks than in a purpose built roller rink!
We need everyone’s support to make this another fabulous event.
During the event, we will change the direction of skaters periodically. Please listen to instructions from the DJ and skate marshall team.
Skater Code of Conduct:
-
Skate with respect and encouragement for all other skaters.
-
Skate with respect for the building.
-
Strictly no skates on the stairs. We don’t care who you are or what your skill level is.
-
Report any injuries or liquid spills to a skate marshall immediately.
