Teams in the League this year of course the other being the Blue Ridge Bobcats who were here last weekend and the river dragons are up in Blue Ridge as a matter of fact just over the weekend as well but this is the first time that these
Two teams have seen each other in quite some time as Columbus opened with six in a row on the road against the zido but it’s been until now that Baton Rouge has made its Columbus debut and this this game tonight starts out an 8 game home stand it’s ladies night here

Sword team they’re a team that likes to attack they like to throw the stretch pass they like to try to bre break break players in Deep Get Behind the defense and score goals that way the flip side of that is you give up the odd man rush
To get the odd man rush and so sometimes the puck ends up in the back of their net especially when you’re not as focused on the defensive side of the coin and we see the uh zico have been victimized by that quite a bit here down the stretch and right now the river

Dragons and the bat rou dako going at it for the first time in Georgia this season yes they’ve met head-to-head on the ice a couple of times already this year in the river dragons as a matter of fact only two teams have beaten them in regulation this year well one of those
Just happens to be the Baton Rouge zido that’s right they’re 51 and0 against the zido all six Road games which were played before the return to the calendar to 2024 three in October three in November and the river Dragon lone loss on the in that stretch was November 9th
By a 5-4 count it was a regulation loss and only the Carolina Thunderbirds have beaten the river dragons in regulation outside of the Baton rou zico so you know you look at a team that’s struggling a little bit here but you can’t get caught napping by these guys
Because they can indeed score goals they do have some toughness and it’s a team as a matter of fact that’s got several former River dragons on it and we’re going to get into some news here about that in just a moment but now the calendar as it flips to 2024 on the
Season series we’ll see seven games played here in Columbus tonight tomorrow night and then three in February two in March and that’ll round out the regular season series between these two hockey teams River dragons 5 and one on the year against the zico sil far so here’s
The interesting part if you will when you take a look at what exactly is the uh the news with the zyo and we’ve talked about this before this is a team in transition they are trying to find themselves trying to find their ways discover what direction they want
To go in here they’re changing the core they’re changing you know the players on the ice they have actually just introduced a new leadership group and it just so happens that an incredibly former former River Dragon who is now part of the zido has been named the team’s first everever Captain
Congratulations to Edgar’s ozal Lynch for being named the first ever captain of the Baton Rouge zyo so we’re very proud of OZO and uh you know absolutely loved OZO when he was here and now wish him the best of luck not too luck too much luck but the best of luck with the
Zido I got a chance to talk to him before the game today and Jake Cox who’s a Columbus Georgia native who played for this River dragons team a couple of games but has now found a permanent home on the the zido this season so it’s good
To see coxy coming back into his home Barn as well as a professional player for the zido and right now as a matter of fact petronio and oaly at Center ice and uh chatting it up Austin do went over to talk to him and they’re giving each other a couple of good-natured
Shots there in the ribs and you know all smiles right now it will not be once the puck drops but for now you can joke around a little bit and again congratulations to oo who’s raring number 18 for the zido team in fact the have named two different sets of helpers
As the some teams it’s kind of the trend I guess in recent years you don’t have to have set captains uh all the time some teams alternate them they rotate them or they do what the zido are doing they do at home and Road and that is
Exactly what the Baton Rouge zido are going to do here and the only assistant Captain who is going to be consistent is actually another former River dragon and MJ Graham so Graham was named an assistant and he will also be out there on the ice along with ozal Lynch and
Then trying to quickly pull this one up here but of course as soon as I go to do that that’s when the Mr internet does not want to cooperate with me it’s always something right let’s see if we can get this to work so the zido let’s get back to this thought here
All right there we go so the new leadership team for the zos so so it’s Captain ozal Lynch MJ Graham both home and road as an assistant and at home games it’s going to be DAV Asen and Brandon hussy being the assistants and then on the road Taylor cutting and Kyle
Stevens have been named the captains and so little bit of a distribution of the leaders ERS ship core which is not the worst thing in the world quite frankly I mean that’s something that can really help teams that are looking to try to you know spread some of that
Responsibility across players and try to get guys to you know Buy in be a part of things share a little bit more ownership of the group and I think that’s what you’re seeing them try to accomplish here the river dragons have really been set on their their leadership group I
Mean obviously Josh pet Antonio when he came back named captain and couldn’t be a better guy to wear that c uh but then you’ve got Justin McDonald Austin doe wearing A’s out there and there are a bunch of other players Alexander JF and Carter and Carrick and a lot of the
Veterans on this team who can lead by example and I think do and you know there’s a lot of talk well what happens next year pet Antonio saying this is his last season Austin do is done after this season where will the leadership go well I think we’re uh we’re seeing a little
Bit of an audition for that this year as far as the river dragons going I know that’s a popular question I get on the uh on the mailbag I think you’re going to see players try to play their way into that uh guys like Kyle Moore have a chance to
Step up and be a real leader for this hockey team and maybe some of the younger players will see Ryan Hunters making a name for himself and here’s the other thing you always want to strike that balance too you don’t want to put too much weight on a young
Player sometimes rarely but sometimes you see a captain in the NHL named very young Trevor Lyndon for the Vancouver cans at the time was the youngest Captain ever named Sydney Crosby was given the honor very early in his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins um you it’s
It’s rare you don’t see it happen a whole heck of a lot I know Gabriel landeskog uh over in Colorado but unfortunately for landeskog he’s battled injuries more than anything else in this part of his career and we really just haven’t seen as much of him on the ice
As I think everybody would like um but it’s it’s it’s rare and a lot of times you have to let those young players develop into those leadership roles plus you never know who’s not here this year who may figure in next year uh last time
This time last year we had no idea there would be a Justin McDonald in the future of the river Dragon so we’ll have to wait and see how all that’s going to play itself out but I do know this there will always be a lot of players who want
