12 Tips To Stay Safe This Halloween
- A responsible adult should accompany children while they’re trick-or-treating.
- If your older children are going alone, be sure to plan and review a route with them before.
- Always walk on sidewalks or paths.
- Take extra time to check before crossing any streets.
- Cross the street at corners using traffic signals and crosswalks when you can.
- Watch for cards that are turning or backing up.
- Have kids carry flashlights or glow sticks so they can be seen by drivers.
- If they don’t have some sort of light, be sure they have something reflective on their candy bag or costume.
- Slow down and stay alert, especially in residential areas and neighborhoods.
- Stay alert and off your phone, so you’re looking for any potential dangers.
- The popular trick-or-treating time is between 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm, so be especially cautious during those times if you’re trick-or-treating or driving.
- Make sure your children do not eat any treats before they return home to check for any potential dangers and in case of any food allergies.
