SITE FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE GRASS IS GREEN, THE TEMPS ARE TOLERABLE AND SKATING CAN IS HAPPENING AT RED ARROW PARK. MILWAUKEE COUNTY PARKS HAS OPENED UP THE RINK TYPICALLY USED FOR WINTER ICE SKATING TO ROLLER SKATING THIS YEAR. IT MAKES ME FEEL EXCITED. IT MAKES OTHER SKATERS FEEL EXCITED.
I’VE GOTTEN NUMEROUS EMAILS AND MESSAGES ABOUT WHEN CAN WE SKATE? YOU KNOW, IS IT TRUE? IS IT REALLY OPEN? IT’S A VISION ROLE. TRAINS TERRENCE CLARK HAS WANTED TO SEE FOR MORE THAN A DECADE, PUSHING MILWAUKEE COUNTY LEADERS TO ALLOW IT. THEY JUST KEPT COMING UP WITH EXCUSES WHY WE COULDN’T DO IT.
WHAT’S BEEN THE HESITANCY? SEE, WELL, REALLY, BECAUSE THE RINK WAS DESIGNED FOR ICE AND ALSO STAFFING. SO WE WERE ABLE TO BE PROVIDED IN OUR BUDGET THIS YEAR, ACTUAL STAFFING DOLLARS. SO THAT’S ONE COMPONENT. RIGHT NOW, MILWAUKEE COUNTY PARKS SAYS ANYONE CAN COME ROLLER SKATE ON THIS RINK FOR
FREE MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 10 A.M. TO 3 P.M. AND ON WEEKENDS FROM 9 TO 5, NO DAILY RENTALS ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. AND ROLLER BLADES ARE PROHIBITED. AND YET TO THE MILWAUKEE ROLLER SKATING COMMUNITY, THIS IS AT LEAST A STEP OR ROLL IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
WE WANT TO BRING OUR VIBE THAT AN ENERGY OF SKATING TO DOWNTOWN BECAUSE IT DRAWS PEOPLE TO IT, COME TOGETHER RIGHT HERE IN THE MIDDLE OF DOWNTOWN AND SHOW THE SHOW. THE PEOPLE THAT STILL DON’T KNOW HOW MUCH LOVE AND JOY THERE IS IN SKATING, THIS MAKE ME CRY.
IT MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME BECAUSE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPENING ALL ALONG IN MILWAUKEE. HANNAH HILLIARD AND 12 NEWS. SOME SKILLED FOLKS OUT THERE. THE COUNTY SAYS THIS IS A TEST RUN RIGHT NOW. THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SAYS THE HOPE IS TO EXPAND
