The artist Ed van der Elsken (1925–1990) was born in Amsterdam but worked all over the world. He loved to film and photograph the street life of the Dutch capital.
“Een fotograaf filmt Amsterdam“ (Engl: A Photographer Filming Amsterdam) is a beautiful portrait of the city in 1982. It is an Amsterdam with many social and urban problems, with a housing shortage, squatter unrest, fashion, punk, graffiti, and a little bit of vertical roller skating (starting after minute 47). The young Michiel skates an old school half pipe with no flat, a version that often occurred back in the days.
