Hey did you see what he did he was on his edge drop watch the pass get Hummer man yeah right guess what we do on our skates all day long we get on French very good get off your toes this coronavirus it’s pretty tough right now so what have you

Been doing to lessen the impact of the corner virus on your life and on inline speed skating life you know yeah it’s been a it’s been pretty wild man to see how it’s affected the world not only you know just this beat skating world but

The world in general you know I to be honest with you my day to day hasn’t changed that much cuz I stay pretty motivated again from a day-to-day basis I’m still focusing on technique training things like that cuz I know that the coronavirus it has an end to it this

Isn’t for forever well as hope so yeah yeah so you know it’s it’s honestly personally giving me more time to get back to the basics without having the hustle and focus more on you know how to better myself as an athlete and especially with the the social distancing and everything else you know

I’ve been able to stay really motivated by getting back to the basics and just really focusing on technique and that’s something that I’ve really tried to portray to some of the people that I’ve been training so how has that been gone how do you you you do personal training

For speed skaters you coach them personally that was yes I do private lessons one-on-ones and yeah we go through all the basics my main focus is on technique and how that applies to their racing and racing strategy and things like that well how is that coronavirus affected the way you meet up

With you know your clients or your inline speed skating your pupils how is the climate virus has that impacted I mean are you guys still meeting or are you doing it over the Internet are you doing on the phone how exactly are you training them are you over the phone

No no conversation yeah right right so I mean are you still meeting in person yes honestly it has not impacted what I do for training other people and the lessons at all okay so you guys still training for a hundred percent so we still meet up in person and we’re very

Lucky in Florida to where we have a ton of trails that have actually stayed open right so and again that’s why I say it hasn’t affected myself and the things that I do on a day-to-day basis at all because I’m still able to go do all the

Same things right so we have it really lucky down here yeah just the nose isn’t no practice though yeah so the one thing that it has affected is is group practices yeah that’s tough yeah yeah it’s it’s it’s really tough on on the kids that rely on those training

Sessions with the team and again you can’t have more than ten people at a time together and even if you do have ten people you know people start looking at you sideways right right right yeah now they’re probably they’re calling the cops and stuff on people right they’re calling

Police if you if you if you don’t have the right social distancing we wouldn’t want to see a whole speed team end up in the slammer be on the news for sure but so so you’re able to still continue to train one-on-one what are those skaters saying or they’re

How are they saying that impacts does anybody else like has anybody relayed to you the impact of you know the coronavirus and the social distance you know do you think it’s shedding skaters do you think people are gonna forget about the sport and not come back because of this because of this long

Delay or do you think this might help because people have a long time and they can train maybe oh I don’t know I really think it depends on the perception that you have on it right so I think it’s really affecting the the people that rely on the training sessions with the

Team right significantly I have noticed that a lot of my a lot of the skaters that I’ve been working with they’ve complained about a loss of motivation right and not only because they don’t have the team to skate with but on top of that you also have all these competitions that are getting

Cancelled rescheduled we have no idea where it’s going for the rest of the season we might have an indoor Nationals Outdoor Nationals we might not so people who’s gonna tell is that you source job to keep people informed and to let the skaters know this is what our plan is

For you know is there any of that is there any news coming out of anywhere to keep us informed of where the sport will be when we’re gonna come back when the next meet is or is it just we’re just gonna all in there like everybody else

It’s it’s kind of tough right now because we’re all based on what the government’s gonna do when they’re releasing things so as of now up until April 30th we have nothing scheduled what’s gonna happen after that I think a lot of people are afraid to really schedule anything solid because we don’t

Know if April 30th is gonna be the end of the social distancing and everything else yeah who knows yeah but realistically it should be the job of the governing sport the governing body of the sport rather to trickle out that information yeah I mean I’ve seen a few posts

Yes but yeah I haven’t seen too many and I guess like said they’re as it’s up in the air for them as well because we’re based on the government I just wonder about the impact of no Nationals and Outdoor Nationals this year see and that’s that’s a lot of the issues that

People are having where they’re saying that losing motivation because I know for myself especially when I was training really hard when you don’t have a meet to train for you start losing focus on what you’re training for so the whole season is up in the air you know I

It’s natural that the motivation isn’t gonna be there today put on that day-to-day grind yeah you know it’s so done chips time okay everybody’s behind sitting on the couch getting nice and you know filled up oh yeah filled up with all the good stuff watching Netflix Tiger king Oh something

Along those lines but uh ya know I could see that as a problem so you’re still obviously training for something yeah so again I know that the corona virus isn’t gonna be for everything and let’s say let’s say most of this season does get canceled I for me it’s always about longevity and

That’s why I like focusing on technique because your technique is never perfect the better – but yeah we’re all shots firing you try to be like we got a long ways to catch up time will tell we uh there’s not enough time left but going well there might be now yeah yeah

No but yeah so that’s why I always try to emphasize to everybody that if you focus on your technique for one you have something on a day-to-day basis to focus on right um and again the better your technique gets the faster you will get a lot of people I miss per misconception

To where they’ll say oh the more I go to the gym work out I’m gonna get faster you will to a degree but you will hit a plateau until you start perfecting your technique otherwise football players will be able to come on to the scene and all of a sudden just dominate everybody

Today can squat 600 pound right it doesn’t translate no I know so yeah I know all about that so I get to do yeah it makes sense so as far as the coronavirus and meats and clients have you seen that loss have you seen a loss of interest from your personal clients

That you think it would reflect throughout the entire sport um as far as my personal clients honestly it’s given me more time with them since they don’t this is kind of the positive thing towards the silver lining with it right a lot of good and bad a lot of people

Are working from home right the kids are home from school granted they have the the home schooling situation but that’s always been the best situation for speed skaters because then you can put in those multiple trainings per day right so now you actually have the time to

Train multiple times a day whereas you didn’t before so if anything this is the best opportunity to put in the work as let’s say all of a sudden it Outdoor Nationals to make national team World Team does get put on the people that have been slacking off because they lost

Motivation are gonna be behind the gun – everybody else they said oh now I have extra time to train which that’s what I’ve noticed as most of my clients it has opened up more time slots for the kids that go to school so we’re not restricted to an hour window now I can

Train with them three four or five days a week yeah whereas before is once a week and what’s the truth well that’s the truth and there is a silver lining you know the the kids they’re gonna have a little more time a little more free

Time to get the skates laced up and get out there even if it is on their own and it is you know social distancing I’ve seen it with acne you know for skates for victory mm-hmm he’s out there hittin the road by himself dad trolling behind

Him in the car and you know there’s ways to definitely take advantage of this time to improve your ability nobody in the better men I hope but there’s things you can do at this time to to take it up another level so this is actually a perfect opportunity for a

Kid that doesn’t have a responsibility obviously there’s definitely hardships with the financially I mean this sport you know you gotta pay to be in any sport so with this downtime what is the impact going to be on the future of the sport when things do get back to normal

Will there be a break a loss of skaters because the financial strain that’s put on these families during this period can we honestly think that they’re gonna jump right back in the minute that happens and be able to go to that meet because what if you know how many people

Don’t have a job right now or stuff like that so I just wonder about the impact that it’ll be on the on the reverse side of when it does get startup then everybody’s happy but then everybody’s gonna be financially strapped I mean 90 percent of people being laid off stuff

Like that I don’t really know the numbers obviously but it’s definitely gonna have an impact so we’re gonna try to do everything we can to bolster that but you know that’s a real situation like it is but at the same time it doesn’t matter what sport you’re doing

It doesn’t matter what you’re doing in life you’re gonna have that economical struggle and hopefully most that people have been having an opportunity to have a work from home type situation right or whatever the situation may be and move they’re finding a way to supplement their income whatever it may be so I

Mean as far as that go that’s gonna affect the economy as a whole in the entire world oh yeah so as far as affecting our sport you know this is where you’re really gonna see the people that truly have the passion for the sport are they gonna stick around the

People that we’re kind of wavering on it maybe I like it maybe I don’t maybe we’ll lose some of those people right but the ones normal exactly exactly so the ones that have the passion I think will stick around right but at the same time I think the most important part is

Keeping them motivated enough to actually want to go out and train on a day to day basis right and you have to give them something to work on that’s why there’s a few really good resources out there on YouTube and a few other things too where again you know I’m

Gonna recommend some videos for people to actually go and watch to where a sum of joy Mantia where he does a really good job of breaking down a lot of the plyometrics and it’s super important to break them down because if you don’t do them right then you’re you’re only

Attributing to bad habits and you’re gonna keep recreating those bad habits right so that’s one thing you can do to constantly improve on yourself and if you watch these videos and you take that information and really try to utilize it and get in front of a mirror have

Something the self-check right yes we all think we’re doing the right thing in our head doesn’t like coaches are always yelling us get your butt lower we always go back we are low and then you see a video and your butt is above your head oh my god I didn’t

Think it yes I know exactly what you’re talking about I’ve seen video of myself and I don’t like to watch video but I know exactly what you talk about you feel something totally different you think you’re far down and you’re not but yes it definitely needs something to work on

During this period I I honestly think there’s two sides of the cone with the coronavirus I do think that it could definitely you know there’s gonna be a financial strain but you know speed skate your rollers inline speed skating you can do on your own outdoors it doesn’t cost anything

Yes so as long as you got your skates you can lace them up whether you’re you know coming home from school which of course there is none right now but you can you can use your skates anywhere for free you don’t need a skating rink to do

That so honestly inline speed skating is a perfect sport for a period like this where you have to have social distance and it’s something you can do on your own to work better obviously that’s what people are trying to do at this point is trying to at least get on their skates I

Just think that during this period I think that they’re I think that we’re gonna see a resurgence for inline speed skating but it’s gonna take a little while I think it’s gonna be because you know it’s people adjust it’s gonna be a financial strain but I think that we’re

Gonna come back twice as strong I think it’s gonna be even bigger I think more people have now during this period focused on what’s important understand that there’s things that you know they really love to do and they’re gonna find a way to do it I think the you know our

Sports relatively cheap compared to a lot so I think that you know I think I think that we’ll do good I think we’re gonna have a resurgence this year I think that obviously after the Olympics we have killed 90% of the ice speed skaters that’ll be an Olympics or

Probably inline there’s now compared to earlier when it was one with Chad or Derek or cheeks or whatever now it’s like ice speed skating is all of us you know all in line so we’ll see a resurgence during that it might take a little time but I definitely see that it’s going you

Know I think these are sports on the verge of blowing up I just think that this was a little setback but we’ll see especially with the you know the indoor worlds coming across the ocean and stuff like that across the seas they’re getting more involved with the year door

I think that could help grow what do you think about that yeah I mean I definitely think that our sport was really on the verge of getting to a level that we haven’t seen before we have a ton of new sources of information such as this I know NSE is doing videos

And stuff like that so you know we’re definitely doing a really good job or a better job of getting the information out there to the people and doing what we can to show people that this is a sport it does exist yeah yeah so I I

Have no doubt that we’re more on an upswing and the beautiful thing that I really saw more than anything during this whole coronavirus thing is more people are getting outside I see more people on the trails not only cycling but I have noticed a crazy influx of

Roller skaters on the trails over the past two or three weeks I’ve seen at least 15 20 or plus more roller skaters out on the trail right so again how you were talking about people focus on what’s important what makes them happy so on and so forth this downtime is really giving people

You know an opportunity to step back and getting back into that joy in things they do without having the hustle of life to wear more stressed out they were exhausted they didn’t have time to even think about going out and doing anything else now they do yeah I get that that makes

Sense it doesn’t make sense I have seen obviously I’ve skated with you on the causeway a couple times recently it was impressive it ware was a lot of rollers saying I there was a lot of in liners out there that I hadn’t seen obviously you know you stopped and talking a lot

Of them came up to you to talk to you about it and ask you questions which I get that all the time when I skate with you but it definitely was even more now people are people you know they want to get outdoors and enjoy themselves as

Like I said it’s something they can do on their own but the was definitely I mean obviously it’s a beautiful landscape but we’ve skated there before and I definitely noticed more skaters myself there you know I think it’s I think it’s a beautiful sport that people can do on their own

But they also can do in a group so it makes sense that this will work out for people they want to Train like I said there’s a lot of people training by themselves outdoors doing stuff we’re seeing videos rolling across the country and across the world people are doing trim they’re keeping themselves

Entertained with it but I do think that we’re gonna see a little bubble right after this but that’s like you said with every sport so hopefully that will get us there hey guess what time it is technique time Technic time Look at your watch what time is it technique time the best time today technique down alright so the first video that then I want a reference to it’s gonna be one of Joey explaining some of these dryland exercises and as we were discussing before it’s very very

Important and I really want to emphasize on this that when you guys do these plyometrics and dryland exercises that you do them as specified in the video he does a really good job of breaking it down showing you and telling you where your hips should be what you should feel

How you transition from you know one position to the next position and he’s explaining it the ways explaining it because it’s very imperative that you lock this stuff in right without doing it in this specified manner your skates are not gonna react the way you want

Them to right so it’s very interested or you got to be very particular about the movements instead of just trying to flow through it like you believe you should yes and this is why getting in front of a mirror while you’re doing these is very important and pausing the video and

This is something I think a lot of people don’t do when you’re watching the video pause it in a position he wants you to get in right and then look at yourself in the mirror do I look like this right right yeah that’s probably a

Point all of us miss us you know entry level or mid low level skaters like myself that is something that we miss a lot we just try to go through the motions and get there the easiest from A to B without really looking at where the positioning is or stopping like you’re

Saying and really looking at it make sense exactly and keep in mind that a lot of people that I had I trained they always say oh well this doesn’t feel right with that being said it’s not going to feel right because you’ve never done it is super awkward right right so

Everything that we do on our skates when you do them correctly it’s very counter intuitive right right so when we escaped forward it’s a really tricky concept but we’re actually sitting back on our skates and driving our skates forward right it makes no sense because if you’re driving your

Skates boat how am i propelling myself right you’re used to push into your chest forward instead of instead of skates yeah that makes sense exactly and again I don’t want to get too far into it want to touch on some of the points because Joey does a great job

Of explaining in a very technical manner right and again even if you start getting lost through the video because you haven’t heard this terminology before everybody says it different whatever that the whole point is when he gets into a position pause the video and then see if you look like that yeah and

We’ll put the links to these videos down in the descriptions so after you’re done watching this or if you want to follow along you can see exactly what he’s talking about of course we’re gonna put it up on the in the video but we’ll put the links down in the descriptions yes

And the first one is gonna be called just for the people listening if you don’t want to go down to the link it’s a fun and on youtube it’s called join mantilla explains his dryland workout should be the first one that will pop up and again just to reiterate make sure

You guys try to follow exactly what he’s doing and then reference checking right and the second video that I want you guys to check out again with Joey he does a phenomenal job of not only well this is no explaining this but replicating see you can sit somewhere

Else right so we’ll find something for ya anyways so the second video is actually of Joey skating and I love this video because I mean he does it so particular that it almost looks like it’s in slow motion and they do have a slow-motion version of it as well

But when you watch it you can really see him leading with his hip like he talked about in the previous video doing the drylands leading with the hip weight over the leg his foot circle coming and you get to see it in action yeah because I know a lot of this stuff

Doesn’t make sense when you break down the individual dryland exercises but there is a plan for all of it they are done for a reason and they’re done in a specific order for a reason right so there’s a plan for all of it yeah I can

Imagine cuz I know that a lot of airline speed skaters just jump in and they’re like go fast go fast go fast but they’re not looking at the interest you know the movements of the body like you’re talking about they’re not looking and breaking down each movement to see what

They they just feel you know this how does that guy go in that fast I am in great shape I can’t keep up with them why I’m as strong as him if we went and ran two miles I would beat them and it’s not in the technique just a little these

Little things of looking at the positioning of the knee following behind me all these things that you obviously–you you understand those things but us as entry-level skaters you know we’re just looking at your entire movement and how fast you’re going and trying to mimic that on a general level

But definitely looking at these and you know following the tips and looking at where you’re the pros like yourself and Joey and Chad and then place their knees and their legs and suit it’s a big thing so yeah I can totally see how this is you know very important to look at the

Particular where they’re positioning isn’t stopping the video like you said and I think that’s a practice I’ll pick up to is to stop the video on these parts and see if I can line up like that because they’re not natural not at all yeah well you know it’s natural to use

Silky smooth but not to us it’s not very natural man I wish it was yeah and here’s another thing to take into consideration as well right so you look at all these pros that end looking flawless when they skate right and a lot of people don’t understand how much time

That took to make every movement perfect I mean back in 2006 when I went and trained with Joey you know after every workout that we did right every single time and it’s not something you talked to me about or whatever it was a natural thing we with a workout and he immediately went

Right into working on his dopey slow efficient so don’t ever think that the guys at the top level don’t practice this very slow stuff and this was midseason right so you can never stop perfecting your technique right well that’s what you guys do at the top you’re always working on it everybody

You know is looking from the outside in and that’s the way it is in any sport but especially in speed skating because we all kind of feel like we’re doing the same things but when you’re out there you just assume that it comes easy to guys like you know Jared Paul’s and the

Joey’s in the in the stellas and all it just seems like it’s natural and we don’t understand that these little tweaks just the way you place your foot your knee your thing that they make huge differences and so we just think it’s it comes easy to you but they don’t know

You know we don’t really understand coming in how much time you put into perfecting those movements and to into to cutting out the extra the loss in trying to you know keep you know keep as much energy as possible cuz I would never burn in energy for days

My legs were going twice as fast as the guys in my division and I was like falling behind and I’m like how is that possible but it’s it’s it’s it’s not and you get a little bit better like I you know as you grow a little bit you start

To learn that you know sometimes less is more and getting that placement is more and I’ve you know that’s something we continue to learn as inline speed skaters but you know having the advantage of listening to you explain it obviously is is a bigger you know it’s a

Big jump so yeah I definitely think slowing down the video stopping at that points looking at Joey and we’re gonna have future stuff where they’re gonna be able to watch you of course yeah and and you know the sports continue to evolve you know what I’m saying we had the

Originators the Chad’s the Derek’s the you know the par as the Downing’s where you go on for days the jorge boteroΒ΄s now then we had the Joey’s and we had the Wayans and we had you know we had that de Michael cheeks we had that really

Hard and you know when I forgetting you know the Julie glass and all those people but what we see the progression of skating continued to evolve it went from the Chad level who was amazing to the Joey who was absolutely amazing to the to the your generation to the you

And as the captain of the USA team and those different things you guys are try to continue to push the sport there’s always one person I always look to a during an era that I feel pushed obviously was Chad Jillian then I filled out with you and then we’re gonna have

The newer generation obviously that’s gonna move in and we got the guys you know we got the young guys coming up winning the Nationals and stuff but it’s it’s it’s up to you as the leaders to teach us little guys those little interesting parts that with the you know

That just go mind-numbingly biases we try to keep up and you guys just walk away and so these breakdowns are real and one thing I want to touch on too is these are things that I never did in the past only until about a year or two ago did I

Really start analyzing video I didn’t see I’m not that I didn’t see the value in the analyzing video but I didn’t understand again all those intricate move what you were looking at yeah what you’re looking at yeah Chad you know you would never know that his movements and

There’s there’s a way that you have to look at videos to understand what’s actually happening in it right and it wasn’t until I actually went to some of the YouTube videos and whatnot and I would go through a race to where I started watching and this is for everybody whoever you think your

Favorite skater is and go to look at the people that are winning the races right consistently because flukes happen right and so when you get to the videos look at the best in the world over a three-year span right in the hundred in the 500 in the thousand whatever race

You want to get good at that you think you want to get to a world of lack and look at who’s placing top and then what you do is you actually let the video play you can watch the video see their strategies so on and so forth right

What’s important is what are they doing on there gates and you’ll start to notice a trend right this is what I started finding that’s when I started realizing oh this is how I should change my technique this is what I should be focusing on oh the

Top five guys in the world are all doing this one thing and the rest of the world is it yeah the people that are winning or doing something very specific right right and it’s hard to see sometimes it is hard to see this is why you look at

The best in the world and then you pause literally when you get on there let the bill play you pause it and then you hit play pause play pause play pause play pause and you watch how their bodies shift right what happens with their foot hitting the ground and this is something

We’ll get in on more depth on you know different videos whatever but that’s what you do and I realize until you do that watching a video you’re watching for strategy more than anything right that’s what we’re looking at and that’s the mistake right we’re looking at like

The overall of when they pull it off in the pack or whimmy stuck his foot out for the hawk at the last second I went by the foot but we’re not looking at what it said to get him there yes and that’s when I went to the last World

Championships in 2017 was last year that I went I was in really good shape and even 2016 really good shape and I couldn’t understand why I was getting beat by these international guys I’m like I’m in the pack but there’s something that I’m missing I’m stepping with them but they’re pulling away

I do weight training I do plyometrics right I trained as much as I thought I possibly could but there was something still missing and I when I had a Sebastian okay no no Guzman from Venezuela when he came blasting by me in a 500 when I’m in a full-out sprint it

Looked like he was just effortlessly going by me hmm and then I saw a picture from it and I was like why does he look so much different than I do technically rise legs are way bigger than mine but temporary and I was like why did he go

By me so fast right and then start breaking down the videos and then I was like they’re all doing something different right and that’s what started getting me looking at it went to the World Championships the international guys are doing something very different than a

Lot of us in the US are and that’s why I say look at what the best in the world is doing not necessarily the best in the US there’s a much larger pond right right so that’s what we’re gonna try to do here is bring that together so people

Can see what’s going on in Colombia and some of the other places like the Netherlands where it’s really popular inline speed skating is pretty big and you know Cuba and all these places were as big right I think there’s a disconnect for the entire sport there’s a disconnect between out of country

Which kind of seems like its own family because they do these international competitions together and then America it’s kind of like on its own ship now I know that you guys go and you compete at the world level still but it kind of seems like there’s a disconnect between

Inline speed skating on an international level and on the United States level you know I’m saying like we’re if the sports gonna blow up per se it’s got to happen here like that’s just the way it is like regardless Netherlands has a big following obviously it’s the number two

Sport in Colombia things like that but for it to really gain steam you need the American media to pick it up you need to show the American people how you know how incredibly competitive and enjoyable our sport is you know I think the skating rink thing kind of endured it

For a while because forever it was in the United States in lines or speed skating the back even in quads was tied to roller rinks right and so now that we have this depletion of or this you know shedding of roller rinks across the United States it kind of seems like

Teams are struggling so I you know I kind of think that the so you’ve got a bridge the gap between you know we’re you know the the international world it’s all outdoor of course through we got the new indoor world championships coming up and stuff like that but the

Outdoor is what pushes over there over here it’s kinda seems like the indoor pushes right because it’s the skater main thing is the only people keep it alive is skating rink and you know lovely owners that will allow teams to still take up time in their rinks but

Whatever I’ve got to kind of bridge the gap right yeah what it all comes down to is all the other countries around the world they didn’t have skating rinks so they missed out on that opportunity so instead they want a building bank tract so like I kind of wish we would’ve went

That way exactly exactly I mean we have three four bank tracts in the entire country none of them coded with this best macro coding that’s where we have a real big issue translating of what we do here in the US when you get to the world

Level it’s kind of like skating on an indoor skating rink that has just bare wood that’s our bank track show like we don’t have a coating on there’s no brick there’s no train you can’t train for something that you don’t have yes admire for the environment right how are you

Supposed to go and compete on a world level when we’re our guys are training on roads in a bank track two bank tracks in the entire country that are are not the standard of what they’re racing on well and look at this correlation right so when it comes to bank traps everybody

Assumes that if you’re a good indoor skater then you’re gonna be good on a bank check it’s a corner no there are two totally different concepts altogether are the ones they’re totally different so how I enter a corner indoor is completely different to how I go so

How can you correlate the two I can cross my feet over that doesn’t mean right that’s why they think it’s the same because you’re just doing a crossover and two straightaway I was a train wreck and I haven’t been back since yeah I know exactly what you’re talking about

And again the correlation to you know and just to let everybody else know so a lot of people ask this question why don’t we do good at the World Championship there’s a lot of reasons but some of the biggest reasons are we don’t have a big track to train on that

Has a best Macha coating so to replicate the speeds and people don’t understand that when you go five miles an hour faster your whole body position changes though you get lower how you enter into the corner so how can you practice for something at a world level when you

Don’t have the conditions to replicate so right here’s how the translation has actually bring the International skaters over and put them on an indoor skating ring with coating they’re not even they can’t take a corner no but they’re getting there though they are I think that their progression into indoor which

Is totally surprising it’s faster and moving better than our transition to outdoor yes makes no sense we’re losing outdoor they’re gaining an indoor with the mainstay of outdoor there at donors we definitely need to bridge that gap where you know because indoors great that it can’t be the in my

Opinion it can’t be tied to skating rinks we need Bank tracks we need to have tracks that are exactly like the ones that are overseas it’s not just so we can compete but so we have growth so we have somewhere that a kid can visit to go skate like you know skateboarding

Parts and aggressive parts that are very popular why because it came to pick up their skates they can go down the street there are the admission they don’t need permission they can go have fun they can meet up with your friends there’s a concession stand kind of like piccolo

Park you know but we don’t have that here so there that needs to be gap but that’s why I don’t understand how internationals bridging to indoor faster than we’re bridging to making a consistent outdoor circuit why do our outdoor circuits fail I don’t know I’m not gonna protest to know because

There’s a lot that goes into it but we definitely need to get our game going on on both levels in the United States because obviously we invented it and we can’t win anymore we can’t win it well I haven’t seen we win on individualistic scan individuals can win but we

Definitely don’t dominate like in the days of the you know the Derek Forrest well taken into consideration the sheer numbers that we had in the United States in the eighties the 70s the 90s the thing is when you have sheer numbers like that you have more appealing people

To choose from so we were dominant but at the same time you had maybe 20 top guys out of 10 15 20 thousand people registered skating all right now we have like 2000 people skating yeah so I mean just the sheer numbers even though

In an effort to try to to to live that lifestyle to be a competitive at the world level the system is not in place in the United States where it is more in place in Colombia they have a system right they they they some kind of training it’s got things down to a

Science I mean they have sports science for skating I mean it’s ridiculous not to mention you have multiple bank tracks per per city right and then you have five hundred a thousand people training on those Bank tracks but at the same time you have taken into consideration that that is their second National

Sports like the second one right so we have a spread of sports we have baseball football soccer baskets true you have scholarships that translate but on turn on the flip side of that we have a million sports in this country that are viable and make a lot of money that are

Not even competitive type sports and I’m not gonna go to the ice this that everybody goes toward this net but there’s enough money in this country where this sport can be huge it’s I mean I know there hasn’t been great leadership as far as putting athletes in the forefront to get their

Names out there because because people don’t like products people don’t like companies but they love athletes they love individual stories right so that’s the important part that’s missing where is the love for the inline speed skater there is not yeah business who where can I go to find out who’s the fastest

Person in the country mm-hmm yes or where can I go where I can see Chad Hendrick winning 50 medals yep where can I go to find out anything who won Nationals last year and the sophomore girls yes I don’t know that’s a failure at the sport can’t grow people don’t care about

Up I mean people care about the product they’re skating on personally but they don’t venture out to skate or to do a sport because of a product they don’t venture out to do that it’s they want to see who did that oh I just saw somebody won nationals over here well

Wow there’s the video of them winning on the big website that keeps the thing and this now and that’s something that’s been missing in this sport which makes it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me considering a lot of new sports come out and you know sports come out and they’re

Relatively mundane and they there’s no you know competition that we have in our sport but they they have they’ve already grown into something because somebody that the the whoever was in charge the up started governing body whatever it was they celebrated the sport and the athlete within the sport and I put to

This point there’s been nothing nothing for anywhere to go well we lack exposure expand exposure yeah that’s a super website yeah so a marketing perspective if you will you know there’s not there’s not a whole lot out there that really again the thing is when you go to Google search in length

Each gave what comes up right when you go to search how to skate where’s the information to show people how they can start from the ground up and build themselves up where can you go to search to where hey when’s the next race coming up here where can I see this

Hey what teams are out there hey what’s in that local area inline speed skater calm okay you will know you will know no but you know I know exactly what you’re saying that’s how I feel that’s why I think a lot of us feel what and that that’s why

We’re talking about before you’re saying there’s a bubble that’s gonna happen and I do think our sport has the potential to be absolutely gigantic it can be a national sport it has to be done right there has to be a source where people can get information right and so once

Again yes yeah actually exact coming soon to UPS any of you okay so with those being put into place and you have NSC that’s starting to do their podcast it’s great John Rogers you all go out there yet exact quality that’s what we need more of who’s that yes I got a

Great job yes right no I mean I just look at it like I got this sport but I just look at it recently it took a more deeper look into it because you’re not busy but I’m looking into it and he’s really stepped up the production value I

Definitely think that exposure has been poor but I think there’s a lot of a lot of fingers to be pointed because we’ve been here 20 years the sport is one of the most exciting sports in the world period there’s it’s it’s it’s NASCAR on skates I mean there’s nothing

You can’t do with it but yet they’ve failed to bring it to the mainstream and I think a lot of that has to do with skating rinks and had the tide of the skating rink has been the problem you know not a problem because we need it

And I love it and endures the best but you’ve got to have an outlet where it’s not tied to somebody’s personal finance of their business is impacted negatively when we give you time to the sport right so if I have a skating rink and I give you time for practice it could

Negatively impact on I know there’s times where this brings that open but I’m just saying that if it hinges on any negative impact on anybody’s business it’s gonna die yeah and here’s the thing so speaking on that you also have the the sacrifices that people have to make

In order to make indoor practices for example we have excess 7 a.m. on Saturdays 8 a.m. on Sunday sometimes 7 a.m. right and there is no like intermediate way of getting into it to get their feet wet it’s like all right cool so if you want to join the sport

You have to be up at 6 a.m. on Saturday 6 a.m. on Sunday the timer supposed to sorry Sammy right yeah and I know and this is where it is for a lot of the skating rinks across the country you know yeah it’s tough that’s what I mean

They have to plug you in if you’re going to get time unit and that’s ok we’re all willing to sacrifice obviously we get up early in the morning you know a lot of sports have to get up early in the morning to Train like that that’s ok

But when it’s tied to when I when the owner of the and the the event location which would be the skating rink for an indoor meet when I say to have a meet it hurts my bottom line as a business owner I’m not going to be likely looking forward to

Having a meet in my building so you have to extract yeah that portion from the sport and I don’t mean don’t have indoor meets keep them coming meet on bring we love you thank you but you you have to separate the financial loss of it and

That means that you have to do outdoor bed listen here’s the thing though if you have the numbers you’re not taking a loss why was it so problematic or because you went to a leave me you had 600 injuries yeah that was a different day during the 80s I remember I started

In quads I never how big it was and that was because skating rinks were big well skating was popular huge back then getting in general brent was popular huge and now it’s not as popular right but that’s the tie to the skating rink that’s what I’m John what I’m just

Trying to say is they need to break away and that can’t be our only pull no 100% right and that’s the things yes there has to be more outdoor stuff better be outdoor right hate but here’s what it comes down to how do you get more people interested in skating

Well the skating rink is the main catalyst obviously well Indymedia promotion if if if if I walked up to a hundred people in every city in this country and I said have you ever heard of Joey Mantia of course have you ever heard of Chad Hendrick and these guys

Won Chad hundred one gold medal in the Olympics which is what everybody but if your speed skater you’ve gotta go to the ice for the Olympics cuz that’s the only where to go I get that but how many people remember Chad Hendrick or remember Joey Mantia any of their

Accomplished or even know it that’s not a slide against their accomplishments because they’re amazing they’re more amazing than most other sports conferences but who promoted those accomplishments where can I go to see some historical information on that you Tsar’s at if I went in the user search bar and type in Chad Hendrick

There wouldn’t be much result of it he’s the friggin face of the sport he’s in Jordan logo he’s everything joy Mantia I mean world Tim not National medals let’s just throw away the thousand National medals he probably has regionals let’s say world titles well let’s just say in general where can

You find any information you’ve got to celebrate this is the athlete you got to give him a place because what servants people don’t look up to be a power slide frame people don’t grow up wanting to be a Simmons boob people grow up wanting to be Joey man Tia Chad

Hendrick Jerrod Paul friggin Bart swings whatever name you want to throw out there but if nobody knows who Bart swings is because their own and I’m not talking to us because obviously you SARS is you know shared facility however you want to consider that with all the other

Roller sports so there’s never gonna be a push for our sport there anyway so it has to come away from you zones I don’t mean that they shouldn’t hold Nationals cuz they do a wonderful events and they do the insurance and all that stuff but either somebody’s got to go up to you

Sarge and say hey look we gotta make it about this sport we gotta start showing images perception videos to add something right to make it cuz I if I win nationals this year and I walk it away from the bra wet yeah I’m Spokane yeah when I get home mmm-hmm

What gives who knows yeah wears it and while it seems like a vain thing to worry about that’s what kids do that’s what adults do right there a day look like what am I gonna get for this well I want exposure they want exposure here’s the thing right so

Here’s what it comes down to for example if I tell somebody that I’m an inline speed skater what can I where can I go to to reference what I do and show how cool it is but you really can’t you got to go online you gotta search for videos

You got to get specific I got to go on different people’s Facebook pages I got to see who posted it who didn’t post it and if I’m gonna see videos from nationals I gotta hope that somebody bought the video and then uploaded it to YouTube never a so when it comes down to

It it’s not a vain thing it’s how do I show and represent what I do and how do I show that it’s cool that’s the hardest part for all of us yeah right so and it to go in an explanation Oh what is speed skating oh well there’s

Three different aspects whoo we got paint Road outdoor skating a marathon ski and they got indoor skating there’s really no good way to present it to the public so that’s the issue that we’re running there is a good way it has been done yeah currently there is not a good one

No and that’s something that I’ve had the biggest issue so yeah whenever I’m out I had I used to have to have videos uploaded on my phone download it to my phone to be like this is what I do yeah I was cool in oh three I remember

When I first started in speed skating since young quads I was a little kid I remember being so proud of what I did until I told like three or four people and this is I was in college I believe at this time for my mother the first

Time I was like I was like yeah this is this is what I do and that was a real reason I started in last week’s skater back then because I wanted to show people what it did obviously I didn’t do nothing with a site in those years ago

But I remember being so hyped up until I told him you know what you know I’m saying what is that and it’s like nobody even knows what it is there’s no there’s no way that somebody can look up to somebody a hero of the sport if they

Don’t know what the sport is which we say we just it needs to grow that way we’re you know we’re all gonna do well it seems there’s a lot of moving parts that John Rogers we got got Pascal brand over there throwing down some heat on YouTube we got some people that are

Trying to make some movements but we got to definitely let people know about the support more and that’s what we’re doing here we’re working on that but I think there’s been a failure if we’re to go back to why we started this conversation there’s been a failure for

The people in charge I don’t care who you are if I ran a company and I don’t say this now okay if I ran a company and you spent 20 years and my company didn’t grow and either the sport didn’t grow then I got home and I know you Sarge got

Their hands tied here’s the thing you sauce isn’t dedicated just to speed skate that’s the problem though that is the issue we don’t have a dedicated department to say okay cool so we have these guys working on social media posts on the website on promoting better they’re doing roller hockey they’re

Doing speed skating they’re doing slalom they’re doing skateboarding and who they’re gonna go work with skateboarding well here’s the thing when you have let’s say 20 people in the home office yeah you need to have 20 people dedicated to just the one sport and have another 20 people so with that being

Said yeah you know it uses a non non for profit organization so there’s not a whole lot of salary that gets thrown around so the thing is if you don’t pay people to do a job you’re not gonna get quality oh no don’t do nothing that you certainly aren’t gonna get none but

That’s my hold so and that that’s where it comes down to that where even within the organization there has to be a way to where you know I don’t know we find out how we can get funding neck’ to be dedicated to building a department within you SARS or again we got people

Like yourself in line feet skin and they’re coming out and sperm to do pick up the slack where it hasn’t been directed NSE is know about it is what about the American Championships what what what what’s what’s the goal they’re like what is the goal there cuz that’s

Obviously a new competition for use ours I know I don’t know a few charges equal tears but I don’t know I’m not saying they don’t but I’m just saying like American champions is like the same thing it’s just I know that their video feeds were a little bit better this year

Than the national championships well it was created to do something different they didn’t they didn’t see the way that you Sarge’s Direction was gonna lead us towards our goals if you will so they wanted to do something different they saw different ways that it could be presented and they had different

Connections and they didn’t have to go through the bureaucratic process of how you stars has to get this approve disapprove disapprove so they created the essentially you know their own organization to to do it how Dave you would be the best way knowing about it and there’s these I’m a

Different track yeah and you have a lot of the rink owners that jumped in on that so it’s it’s a little bit different concept it was good it was good except it was if I could take you you know Nationals you saw Nationals and mix it in there with

The things that you know that the American national it you would have a perfect abandon you’re never gonna have a perfect event but I mean you SARS was I mean it was an amazing area Spokane Washington it was an amazing venue I love the venue but the event itself if i

Watch american national championships the video feeds the electronic the the placement boards the the the technology and the arena although I liked you saw setup better because it was more open and more you felt like me whenever you saw that that hockey thing at the American Championships kind of felt like you were

Separated but if they could have just got the technical or to the you Sarge national this year it would have been I mean I could I mean I had a wonderful time but you know what I’m saying like there was did they even have this year like they like seemed like it downgraded

A little bit and I know is a new marina right that’s right so there’s a lot of things that went into Nationals this year Spokane was a lot more expensive think Outdoor Nationals Worlds was like all around the same time people had to choose whether they want to go to

Outdoor Nationals or indoor Nationals cuz the expenses it was at the other side of the country so plane tickets were more expensive to hotels yeah Spokane it was out so it was a financial thing more than anything yeah yeah oh yeah but still I mean like I said I I

Had a great time but I just think it I don’t even know how they do it because they did a great event but there’s nothing else for the sport you know I’m saying like there’s nothing else I just think it’s something we’ll talk about more but we’ll you know we need that it

Definitely needs it needs everybody everybody needs to chip in everybody needs to do the part to grow the sport because there’s no doubt that it’s one of the most exported exciting sports in the world and high endurance high anaerobic high intensity you got bumping you got movement you got Falls you got

Crashes you got you know you got everything you got insane speeds that going as fast as cars go and these guys are running in a pack mmm centimeters from each other how can you not tell me that’s not exciting yeah this it’s just me and needs though everybody needs to pitch it okay

Presentation presentation presentation and take it to the next level and that’s what we’re here to do and I don’t know you got anything else you want to say on your first episode of on the edge from inline speed skating I know we covered a lot I’ve heard a lot of stuff and again
