Today would be day one of this new Venture I guess we’ve seen you here handing out the ice skates in Winter yeah every year and now you’re you’re rolling out the roller skates so tell us about the idea well I’ve been tracking it for the last seven years down in
California and it’s a quite a growing sport again it’s uh what what is old is new again right so what you’re talking about now is the uh your decision not to go with the roller blades that we’ve seen more in the last uh 10 15 years but instead roller skates like they were
Back in the 70s yeah they’re actually referred to as a quad wheel four wheels is this something that you know some younger people wouldn’t even be familiar with just now oh I imagine there’s uh some that probably haven’t experienced it but probably seen him somewhere along
The line whether it be on a movie or you know somebody Smash Up Derbies coming back there’s ladies uh Derby League there’s a men’s Derby League here uh they do some practicing and uh they have different events in Penticton and Vernon as well you’ve probably been on
These style of roller skates few times in your life well yeah I used to teach uh back in the boardwalk days in the late 70s is that right you were an instructor yeah we have uh on Tuesday nights we have a lady and her group uh Colleen Mulligan
And they set up a disco ball and they play uh DJ live VJ and they have the lights and and the Music Barn and they provide free lessons for everybody from Seven till nine thirty just on Tuesday nights what about safety equipment what do you recommend for people renting
Always recommend a helmet uh head injuries or a bad thing for anybody to have happen to them I mean it can be detrimental to your life so I strongly recommend them you’ve got a good supply of those right here yeah I’ve got about 80 different uh helmets uh they’re made
For roller skating they’re a heavy duty helmet they’re lightweight and we also have the safety gear which is uh it includes a set of knee pads elbow pads and wrist guards as well and if it was up to you people would put all of Adam
I make sure my kids do you know it’s a lot cheaper to rent to pair of these in a helmet than it is to parking at the hospital so it’s all debris which value you put on it yeah so here we are day one um coming right out of the shoot it’s
Not like the it’s packed just yet but do you have any way of knowing what the uptake is going to be uh nope it’s uh pretty much the same thing as when I started skate seven years ago uh Escape rental we had no history no uh thing but it is beginning of June
Tourism starts you know mid-june later June and it should slowly pick up but once people get familiar and hear about it I think the Curiosity deal get them coming you certainly have no trouble finding people to rent the ice skates in Winter right not a problem
So I guess we’ll just see if the roller skates do as well I’m pretty confident it’s going to be just as strong as the skating in the winter we’ll see thanks a lot for your time and best of luck with the Venture thank you very much beautiful
