My First Osteopathy Session With Skater Katsi Yuen

I’m always on the lookout for exceptional bodyworkers. Maintaining my body’s functionality is essential if I’m to continue skating and teaching well into (and beyond) my 50s.

Like many long-term skaters, I carry a mix of old and more recent injuries. Over time, these create compensations and patterns of tension that, if left unaddressed, can limit performance and increase injury risk.

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a type of hands-on healthcare that focuses on the musculoskeletal system (basically your bones, muscles, and joints), to help your body heal itself and stay in balance. Osteopaths use techniques like massage, stretching, and manipulation to ease pain and improve how your body moves and functions overall.

When I discovered that Skatefresh student and tripper, Katsi Yuen, is also a qualified osteopath, I booked in for a session at her centrally located clinic in Covent Garden (and she also treats near Finsbury Park & Marylebone).

From the outset, I was impressed by the depth of her initial assessment. Katsi took the time to understand my injury history, current symptoms, and movement patterns, giving me confidence that the treatment was tailored specifically to my body and skating demands.

On the treatment table, her work was both deep and intuitive. She clearly explained what she was doing throughout, which helped me feel informed, safe, and completely at ease. Her touch was gentle yet precise, and I noticed a significant release of tension in my hip following the session, which in turn had a positive effect on my lower back.

If I lived in London, Katsi would be someone I’d see regularly. Her experience, skill, and thoughtful approach make her treatments genuinely good value. I also know several skaters who see her on an ongoing basis, and their feedback is consistently glowing.

As a skater herself, Katsi has a first-hand understanding of the repetitive demands skating places on the body. I highly recommend her whether you’re managing an injury, recovering from one, or simply looking to maintain peak performance and longevity in your skating or general health as she works structurally and viscerally with an interest in chronic pain and trauma.
